Summary: What happens when Mulder, Scully, and their seven year old are caught in a winter storm in the Sierra Nevada? ------------------------------------ A WINTER STORM Written by: Erin M. Blair ------------------------------------ Mulder Cabin Lake Tahoe, CA January 1, 2012 Mulder and Scully have been at the cabin in Lake Tahoe for the past four days. They had a wonderful time making snow angels with their seven year old daughter, Elizabeth Christine. It was a great escape to paradise but now they have to leave. "We need to pack, Mulder," said Scully, coming from the bedroom. "I know." Mulder got up and he heard a wind through the cracks of the cabin. It sounded like a storm brewing. He walked towards the window and looked out at the snow covered ground. He noticed the snow falling from the sky like crystallized raindrops. "We can't go anywhere, Scully." Scully walked towards Mulder at the window. "Why not?" "A storm's brewing. Look at the clouds. It's going to snow at any time. I think we're stuck here for another day." Scully sighed. They were supposed to be back at work tomorrow. "Skinner's gonna kill us, Mulder. We promised we'd go on a case after we take Liz to the mountains." She paused and looked at her daughter's dainty face as she played with her science set. "Liz, we're going to stay an another day!" "Cool, Mommy!" Mulder smiled. He murmured into his wife's ear. "Looks like its settled, Scully." "I hope we have enough wood for the fireplace. I can't believe your mother gave you this cabin in her will." "I remember coming here when Samantha and I were little. Anyway, it's a great place to bring Elizabeth." Scully nodded. "It's a beautiful place, Mulder. The snow covered mountains are a perfect atmosphere. It's like being a part of a Christmas card." They walked from the window towards the sofa in front of the fireplace. They could feel the warmth on their faces. "Mulder?" "What is it, Scully?" "I was just thinking - " "Of what?" "I don't know. I was just thinking of how lucky we are. We have a good career at the FBI - people respect us for bringing the truth to their faces. Most of all, we have a wonderful little girl - Elizabeth Christine Mulder, and I have you." Mulder nodded. "I never thought of us being lucky, you know." "But we are lucky. We have each other." Mulder noticed her smile flitting across her face and he nodded at her logic. "You're right. I'd never thought being caught in a snow storm was lucky. If we hadn't been, we would never talked about this." He nestled into Scully's embrace. "Scully?" "What?" "I love you and our daughter." Scully nodded as her smile deepened. "I know." She paused. She whispered into his ear. "I love you too." * * * A few hours later, they were still cuddling by the fire. "Mulder?" "I think we need to put Liz to bed." Mulder nodded. "All right." He paused. "Liz?" Elizabeth lifted up from playing with her science set that her parents bought her for Christmas. "What Daddy?" "You need to go to bed..." "But it's early, Daddy!" exclaimed Elizabeth. Scully sighed. "I know but we need to have an early start for home. We're going to tell you a story." "What story?" asked Elizabeth. "How about when you first met Daddy?" Scully looked at Mulder, who nodded, and gave them both a smile. "That sounds like a great story. We met at the FBI and fell in love with each other. Of course, we hid our feelings for one another until we kissed on January 1, 2000. After that, we got married on February 14, 2000. A few years later, we had you. Our miracle." As Scully was telling their story to Elizabeth, Mulder realized why he wanted to take his two females to Lake Tahoe. It was the day when he kissed Scully. "Scully?" "What?" "Happy anniversary, Scully. This is the anniversary of our first kiss - I love you." "And you know how much I love you," replied Scully. "Did I ever thank you for the greatest kiss in my life at the time?" "No, but you don't have to thank me." "Why's that?" "We're together - that's what matters." * * * January 2, 2012 Lake Tahoe, CA "Scully?" "Hmmm..." said Scully, sleepily. "Is the blizzard over?" Mulder nodded. "We can go home." "Let's stay another day. I think Skinner will understand." Mulder gave her a kiss on the lips and felt the warmth of her skin. "All right." He called Skinner. "Skinner, this Agent Mulder calling from the snow covered mountains of Lake Tahoe. Scully and I decided to stay another day." A short pause. "It's ok with you? Thanks, Sir." "What did he say?" "We can stay for another day. We can go back on the fourth." "That's two days of vacation than originally planned," said Scully as she was fully awake now. "We have to send Skinner a post card." "I know." "I guess getting snowed in really did help after all," said Scully. End of Story. Feedback: Much appreciated. Send to: eblair@sonic.net Author's Notes: This story's written for Fanfic of the Millennium's January Challenge to write about Mulder and Scully being caught in a winter storm. Originally, I was going to name their daughter Christine, but Elizabeth popped in my mind. Probably due from reading one of my favorite X-Files writer's works. =) Besides this story is dedicated to her as well as my two friends, Joey and Tanja. Dedications and Thanks: Thanks to Tanja, as always, for being a friend and a supporter of my writing. I would also like to thank Joey for being there always.
