Summary: Will the beach bring Mulder and Scully some happiness? ---------------------------------------------- THE BEACH Written by: Erin M. Blair ---------------------------------------------- "Hey, Scully, let's go to the beach. It's a nice day to go out. We've been rather slow these past few days with no cases coming in. What do you think?" Fox Mulder asked his partner, Dana Scully, at their basement office at the FBI in Washington DC. "That's a great idea," Scully said with a smile. "I was just thinking about it when you suggested it. We've been having good weather all week." She sat down on a chair, and she noticed a smile was starting to form across her partner's face. "What are you smiling about?" "Scully, do you know what this means?" "No." "We're psychic." Scully laughed. "That's the most craziest thing you have ever said to me, Mulder." "Oh, come on, Scully, you thought of it and I thought of it..." "That doesn't mean anything," Scully said, logically. "It means we should do it. Why not?" Scully frowned. "Maybe it's not a good idea after all, Mulder." Mulder sighed. "Why not? You wanted to go, Scully. What made you change your mind?" Scully looked at the stack of case files sitting on Mulder's desk; she knew they still needed to finish the bureaucratic paperwork. "We still have paperwork to finish." "So?" "Skinner wouldn't like it - he wants the report by five o'clock," Scully said with a sigh. "We'll have plenty of time to finish it and he's not in a huge hurry," replied Mulder. "Beside, we need to take a day off once in awhile." A short pause. "When was the last time you had a day off, Scully?" He watched her frown deepen and knew the answer. "Not for a long time. We're going to the beach." Scully's lips lifted up in a warm smile and she nodded. "All right, Mulder, you talked me into it. Let's go to the beach!" "I had a feeling you'll say yes!" "You know me all too well," Scully said with a laugh. *** When Mulder and Scully arrived at the beach, there was hardly anyone there except for a small girl building a sand castle. The slight breeze felt cool on Scully's creamy white blouse and tan pants. She shivered a bit and wished she was wearing a jacket. It wasn't like her to forget her navy jacket. She sighed. "Is there anything wrong?" "I'm fine." Mulder knew she wasn't - she always told 'I'm fine' whenever he asks her if she's all right. He decided to change the subject. "I love how the sunlight's shining down on the water - it's romantic." "I know. Mulder, I - " "Scully, I - " Scully laughed. "You go first." Mulder smiled. "I just want to say how much I love you." "What?" "I love you, Scully. I've fallen in love with you since the day I first met you - not on our official 'partners' meeting but the day we met at Quantico." A brief pause. "Do you remember?" Scully nodded. "I remember. I couldn't believe how much you distrusted me at first." "I regretted that, Scully. I'm glad I trusted you during that night in Oregon." "That meant a lot to me, you know. I thought you hated me on sight." "No. I was just hiding from you." "Why would you do that?" "I don't know - I guess I was scared, Scully." Scully saw Mulder's hazel eyes, looking downcast, at the shimmering water. "Why were you scared?" Then it dawned on her. "You were scared of me? Mulder, I would never hurt you. I hope you know that by now." "I do know you would never leave me but I didn't know at the time." "Mulder?" "What?" Scully pulled Mulder towards her for an embrace. "I love you too, Mulder." She gazed into his hazel eyes and then their lips touched for a kiss. Mulder broke off the kiss and looked at Scully. "I'm glad you finally said it." "I know. I guess I was afraid too." "There's no reason to be afraid of our love. Believe me." "I do believe you, Mulder." "And I believe in us, Scully." The End. Author's Notes: This _was_ going to be my second story ever, but I had forgotten about it over time. The style used, in this story, showed how I had written fanfic earlier last year. A few weeks ago, I had found the story again which I finally decided to finish it. I decided to keep the earlier style rather than my new older-and-wiser approach. I hope that you'll enjoy this story. I do have a sequel in mind to follow this story. Feedback: I accept any feedback which would be quite helpful to me. Send to: eblair@sonic.net
