Blair she thought. "Mulder, I've got some news to tell you." She smiled at him. "I've received some news to tell you, too," Mulder replied, as he looked up to see his wife. He got up from his desk and walked towards Scully. He embraced her. "Are you?" "Yes," Scully answered, knowing what he meant, with a happy smile. "We're going to have to a baby." "That's wonderful news, Dana," Mulder said. He was happy with the news. "I've received the paternity results..." Scully wondered how he got the results. "Elaine gave them to me to look at. Fox, you are---" She looked into his hazel eyes. "You are--" "I know. I'm Katherine's father," Mulder murmured. He looked at his wife, and stroked her back. "She is ours, Dana." "I know," Scully replied. "She is ours. I wish that..." "What?" "I wish that we had found each other then..." "In fact, I wondered what would have happen if we had married when you became pregnant with Katherine. What would our lives be like?" "I don't know," Scully said, with a whisper. She had wondered what would happen if she had told him the news. "I guess that I would have been Mrs. Spooky much earlier. Am I right?" She saw her husband nod. "Our other children would have been a little older..." "Would we have been partners, Scully?" "I'm sure we would have, Mulder," Scully replied, with a sigh. "They are letting us be partners now." "That's because we are better together than apart. We make each other whole. Remember I told you that?" "I know," Scully said, softly. "Katherine is going to be happy when she finds out that you're her father." She paused. "She likes you. In fact, she has your eyes." "I know. She has your hair," Mulder replied. "She has your features." He cupped his wife's face, and gazed into eyes. Gently, he kissed her warm lips. Scully broke off the kiss, and smiled at her husband. "She has the best from both of us. Do you want to take this to our house? It's getting hot in here." "I think that we'd better." "Good. I left Mom in charge." Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Thursday, 1:30 p.m. "Mom?" Scully inquired, as she and Mulder walked into the door of their house. "I'm in the living room, Dana," Margaret Scully called out to her daughter. She saw Scully and Mulder walk in. "Hello Fox." "Hi Mrs. Scully," Mulder replied, as he smiled at his mother-in-law. "Fox, don't you think that you should call me "Mom" by now? It has been two years since you married Dana." "It's hard getting used to it," Mulder answered. He glanced at his wife, and whispered into her ear. "Are you going to tell your mother or should I?" "I will," Scully whispered, in a low voice. She sat down at the sofa with her mother. "Mom, we've got some news to tell you." "What is it, Dana?" "Mulder and I--well, we are going to have a baby. I'm pregnant!" "That's great news. I'm happy for the both of you!" Margaret exclaimed, her eyes lit up with joy. She recalled that they were going to receive the results of the paternity test. "That's not all. Is it?" "No," Mulder replied. "It's not." He looked at Scully, and tenderly stroked his wife's hair. "We got the paternity results back..." "And?" Margaret prompted, as she looked at the happy couple. "Fox is the father of Katherine, Mom," Scully replied, with a smile. "I wish that I had known then..." "I'm so happy for the both of you," Margaret replied. She focused her attention on Mulder. "I wish that we had known it then. Both of you might have been married for nine years instead of two." "I know," Mulder said, with a sigh. "How are the children?" "They're all right," Margaret answered. She got up from the couch, and she gave her daughter a hug. "I'm so thrilled for the both of you." "Thanks, Mom," Scully said, as she returned the hug. "Are you going to stay for dinner?" "No. I think that I'd better go home," Margaret replied. "We also have to plan for Katherine's birthday party. Remember?" "I know," Scully replied. She walked with her mother to the front door. "I can't believe that Katherine is his daughter too." "When you became his partner, Dana, you must have had some inkling that he could be the one." "Maybe. I don't know," Scully replied. "I hadn't realized it at the time. The more I thought about it, the more I knew that Fox and I had an earlier meeting than previously thought." "And now you're married to him and you are the mother of his children," Margaret replied. She gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek. "I'll see you later." "Bye, Mom," Scully said, as she watched her mother leave. She walked towards her husband in the living room. She sat down on the couch beside Mulder. "Let's tell Katherine the news." "I think that it's a great idea, Dana." They walked upstairs towards their daughter's room. "Katherine?" Scully inquired to the auburn-haired little girl who was in the midst of playing with her dolls. "There's something we have to tell you..." Katherine looked up at them with her curious cherubic face. "What about, Mommy?" She watched her mother and her husband as they sat on her pink floral bedspread. "Remember that I told you that we'll know who your father is by your birthday?" Scully asked her daughter, who nodded. "We know the truth now." "You know but I don't know, Mommy. Do you know what it's like not knowing if you have a father?" Katherine asked. There were tears in her hazel eyes. "All my friends have a Mommy and a Daddy but I don't. . ." "You do have a Mommy and Daddy, Katherine," Mulder replied, as he wiped his daughter's tears. He couldn't believe how hurt that Katherine was about not knowing who her father is, and he theorized that she was suffering because of it. "He doesn't love me. He probably hates me," Katherine said, sadly. "Katherine, sweetie, your father does love you," Scully replied, gently. "No, he doesn't." "That's not true, Katherine. I'm your father and I love you very much," Mulder said, lovingly. "You're my Daddy?" "Yes, I'm your Daddy." Katherine turned to face her Mommy, and asked her, "He's my Daddy?" "Yes, he's your father," Scully said, as she kissed her daughter's forehead tenderly. "I hadn't known it at the time, but we found out today." "Deep down, I knew that you're my daughter, Katherine. We share the same eyes," Mulder said, with a delightful smile. He looked at his wife and then at his daughter. "You also have a brother and sisters." "I know," Katherine replied, as she hugged her father. "Katherine, I'm going to make sure that you'll know how much I love you," Mulder murmured, as he smoothed his daughter's auburn hair. Scully smiled at the reunion between father and daughter, and she was happy that they were complete as a family. "Are you going to tell Katherine the other news or should I?" "What is it, Mommy? Daddy?" Katherine asked, as her eyes were lit with curiousity. "You're going to have an another baby sister or brother," Scully replied, gently. Katherine looked wide with interest at her parents. "That would be nice... Mommy? Daddy? Did you think about names?" Scully looked at Mulder, and then, at their daughter. *Their* daughter. She still couldn't believe that Katherine was *theirs*. It was hard for her to think of Katherine as his daughter as well. "No, honey, we haven't. What do you think of the names?" "For a girl, Melissa." "Melissa?" Mulder inquired. He looked at Scully to see a reaction to the name that Katherine suggested. It was her deceased sister's name. "What do you think, Scully?" "I think that's fine," Scully replied, with a smile. "I'm sure that Missy would love it." "Speaking of names, I think that Katherine's name should be Katherine Dana Mulder," Mulder said, as he stroked his daughter's hair. "What do you think, Katherine?" "I think that I like the name, Daddy..." Scully smiled at Mulder, and she hugged him. "That's a wonderful gift to her." She whispered in his ear. "Thank you." "What for?" "Oh, I don't know," Scully smiled, and then she whispered, "For loving me and our children." "And?" "We discovered something now..." Mulder was watching Katherine playing with her dolls, and looked up at his wife. "I think that I know..." "You do?" Scully asked, as they walked out of their daughter's room. "What?" "For reflecting about Katherine. For us knowing that we had always been in love. It was never found again until our first day as partners," Mulder replied, as he stroked his wife's back. "Katherine's the proof of that love as are Fox Jr., Dana, Emily, and Gillian..." He saw Scully's sad expression, and he hugged her. "We'll find her, Scully. I know we will. If not us, then our children will." "I know, Mulder. I know." End of Story Coming Up: Discovery of a Dream Scully gives birth while new opportunties happen to them.
