Summary: Mulder and Scully's life turns upside down when a couple of women from Mulder's past threaten to come between Mulder and Scully's married life. -------------------------------------------- DISCOVERY OF SAMANTHA Written by: Erin M. Blair --------------------------------------------- FBI Headquarters J. Edgar Hoover Building X-Files Basement Office Monday, 9:00 am. "Fox?" Dana Scully-Mulder asked, as she walked into the X-Files basement office after dropping off their three month old twins, Fox Jr and Dana, at her mother's. They have been in the process of moving their stuff to the new X-Files Division on the sixth floor. She saw her husband looking at a file, and his hazel eyes were troubled. "Are you all right?" Fox Mulder sighed and he looked up to see his wife. He knew that she was concerned about him. Every single year gets harder than the last remembering Samantha. "Not really. Today is the anniversary of Samantha's disappearance." "I know," Scully murmured. "Someday we will find her. In fact, I think that we're a lot closer than you think." "How are we closer, Dana? I had been searching for her when I was 12, and we've been searching for her for almost ten years." "That's what I wanted to talk to you about. I was re-reading the X-File on Samantha when I was fixing little Dana and Fox's lunches, and there seems to be some things that we had been overlooking," Scully paused. She handed him Samantha's file. "I wrote my own profile." "You wrote your own profile of the abduction?" Mulder asked. "Yes, I did," Scully replied. "Fox, you know that I had profiled before." She was referring to the time when she profiled the killer when Pheobe Green brought the Cecil D'Lively case to their attention, and the time when she profiled Gerry Schauntz when he kidnapped her to save her own life. Her lips turned upward to form a smile. "And besides, I learned it from you." She place her lips onto Mulder's lips to give him a kiss. Mulder broke off the kiss. "You know, we don't have to work today if you don't want to. We can take a day off, and..." "It sounds tempting, Fox. However, I think that you should read the profile. It may help us find Samantha," Scully said with a sigh. "All right, I will read it," Mulder said as he looked at the file folder that Scully had placed at his desk. He began to read the profile. "You mean that you don't think it was aliens, Dana?" "You know I never believed that. There's got to be a logical explanation. It probably was a flashlight which blinded you...not lights of a spaceship. It doesn't make sense. I think Samantha was horrified of this person. It appears to me that she *knew* who this person was," Scully replied. She took a deep breath. "I personally think she's in this area. Perhaps, we had looked too hard." "Too hard? What do you mean?" Mulder asked. "Maybe we'd seen her, and didn't know it was her," Scully said, as she paused for a second and then continued. "They probably changed her name and we didn't know..." Her voice trailed off a bit as Scully decided to change the subject. "I know Samantha is on your mind, but Jeffrey wants our help on a case." She was referring to Special Agent Jeffrey Spender. "I don't like the guy, Dana. Besides, he didn't ask me. He asked you. He still blames me for his mother's abduction," Mulder said with a frown. Of course, it didn't help matters that he doesn't like him either. "He'll come around," Scully said with a sigh. "I doubt it, Dana. I don't think it'll happen," Mulder replied. "You don't know that for sure," Scully said in a low voice. "The kids are at my mother's, and we have exactly five hours until we pick them up." "We do?" Mulder asked. His lips started to form into a smile. "What do you have in mind?" "What do we usually do?" Scully asked, as she gave him a tender smile. She was starting to get into a romantic mood as she noticed her husband's mood was changing to a happier one. Mulder pulled Scully in an embrace, and he kissed her. "Like this?" "Yes," Scully replied, as she kissed him. Special Agent Jeffery Spender's residence Annapolis, MD Monday morning, 9:20 am. Jeffrey Spender fell asleep on the couch for the third time in a row. "I'm just exhausted. Maybe it's because of that case." Assistant Director Walter Skinner had gave him a case, and wanted him to be the one in charge. He couldn't believe it since he thought he would give it to Fox Mulder and Dana Scully-Mulder as they are the best agents at the FBI. He respected them, but he didn't want to be known as "Spooky's Friend" and he wanted to make sure that he didn't get the same treatment like Mulder. He wanted to move up in the FBI, and the only way to do that is to far from Mulder as much as he could. Jeffrey had asked Dana Scully-Mulder to help him out of the case, but he told her that he didn't want Mulder's help at all. "I know that I am acting like a jerk, but I don't like Mulder." He paused. "That's not a great attitude, Spender, if you are planning on moving up in the FBI. You have to think clearly or you are really going to mess things up." He heard a knock on the door, and he opened it. It was a fellow agent named Jennifer McIntyre. She had long, wavy brown hair and sparkling hazel eyes. She has been his partner for quite some time. "Am I here at a bad time?" Jennifer asked. "No, not at all," Jeffrey replied. He showed her to his sofa, and watched her sat down. "I had been given a case about this child prodigy who was almost killed at this chess tournament." "Why would anyone kill an innocent child?" Jennifer asked, frowning. "I think that's horrible." "I don't know... That's what a group of us trying to figure out," Jeffrey replied. "The one thing that I am not looking forward to is dealing with those married X-File agents." "In a few years, that could be us," Jennifer replied, teasingly. "So how come I am not a part of this group?" "Skinner wouldn't allow it," Jeffrey sighed. "I think that he should have since you majored in child psychology." "I minored in it, I majored in psychology," Jennifer replied. "If you need any help at all, let me know. Ok, Jeff?" "Sure, I will certainly let you know," Jeffrey replied. "I'll see you around then," Jennifer answered. "Good luck on the case. I am sure that you won't need it." "I think that I will need all the luck that I can get," Jeffrey replied. FBI Headquarters Meeting Room Monday, 10:30 a.m. Special Agent Diana Fowley walked into the meeting room for the task force regarding the child prodigy named Gibson Praise. Diana thought to herself, as she sat down in one of the many chairs in the room. She saw an auburn haired, blue-green eyed woman taking the seat ahead of her. She decided to make small talk with this young woman. "Hello. I hadn't seen you before," Diana replied. "I'm Special Agent Diana Fowley. What's yours?" "Special Agent Dana Scully, MD," Scully replied, as she still used her maiden name for work to avoid confusion with her husband. She knew that Mulder was still in the basement getting things ready for the move into their new section. "I haven't seen you before either. Are you new?" "Not really. I had been in Europe for the past six years," Diana replied. "You know something?" "What?" Scully replied. "Our names rhyme. Dana Scully and Diana Fowley," Diana smiled warmly. "Isn't that amazing?" "How amazing," Scully answered. She asked herself as she looked at the tall, dark brown haired girl. She turned towards the door to watch Jeffery Spender walk in. "Let's get to business. Shall we?" Jeffery replied. He put on the video tape of the shooting. "Let's watch the video." The video began to play of the shooting. He noticed that Fox Mulder walked in. he inwardly groaned. "Can you rewind that? I noticed something," Mulder replied. "There. It doesn't look as the Russian was going to get shot, it was the boy." "What are you saying?" Jeffrey asked. "The boy knew that he was the target," Mulder replied. "Children do have some knowledge of what's going on." He wasn't only thinking of Gibson Praise, but of his own twins. "I think that it for the day. We will come back here tomorrow," Jeffery replied. Mulder sighed. "All right." He still doesn't like Jeffrey Spender although he tries to be civil to him. His hazel eyes scanned the room, and he saw his Dana sitting there with his former partner and girlfriend, Diana Fowley. He watched his wife talk to Diana about something. Scully sees her husband, and she approaches him. "Mulder, I had no idea that you are going to be a part of this task force." They still call each other "Mulder" and "Scully" at work. "Skinner had asked me, and I accepted it," Mulder replied. He saw Diana walking up towards them. "Hello Diana. What brings you here?" "You know her?" Scully asked. "How?" "She was my partner from a long time ago," Mulder replied. "It's been a long time since I saw her. She left for Europe never to return until now." "I had no idea that you know Fox, Dana," Diana replied, to Scully. "Fox and I had been married for almost a year," Scully replied, as she smiled at her husband. One could see the love that she has for Mulder sparkling in her blue-green eyes. "We are still partners on the X-Files." "Oh?" Diana replied. She had no idea that Mulder was married to the auburn haired woman. "Yes," Mulder replied. "We also have newborn twins as well." Diana thought. She smiled weakly and sighed. "I am glad that you are happy." Outside of the Meeting Room FBI Headquarters Same day and time Jennifer McIntyre was waiting for Jeffrey Spender to get out of the meeting. She saw him walk out and he noticed her. "Jennifer, once again Agent Mulder came in there and he fixed the problem! I just can't stand him!" "Is it because you're still blaming him for your mother's abduction?" Jennifer asked. "Yes!" Jeffery exclaimed. "I know how much you are hurting, Jeff. You have to let this anger go. It's going to hurt you. I know how it feels to have lost someone important," Jennifer replied. Her memories of her childhood were foggy at best. She desparately wanted to know what had happen to her, but so far, to no avail. "I know. I know," Jeffrey replied. He watched as Mulder and Scully walk into the hallway. Office of the Lone Gunmen Monday, 3:00 p.m. Scully decided to find out more about Special Agent Diana Fowley in her husband's life, and to find out more about the scans from Gibson. In order to find out the truth, she went to the Lone Gunmen. "Why Agent Scully-Mulder, what a nice surprise," Frohicke said, as he opened the door to Scully. Scully walked inside the office, and she was amazed by the various electronic devices and the computers. "What can we do to help you?" Byers asked. He was concerned for Scully. "I need your help," Scully replied. She takes out the scans, and showed it them. "I need your expert opinion on these scans which was done on this child prodigy." "This kid has more human intelligence than the average human being," Langly replied. "How so?" Scully asked. "The kid can read people's minds to know what they are thinking," Langly replied. "There was something else I wanted to ask about. Diana Fowley. Who is she?" Scully asked. "She was Mulder's chickadee when he discovered the X-Files," Langly replied. "She was his partner and his girlfriend," Byers said. "She went off to Europe though." Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Monday, 5:00 p.m. Scully was feeding little Dana and Fox Jr. in the dining room. She was still having mixed emotions regarding Diana and her relationship to Mulder. She was thinking about Diana and hadn't noticed her husband walking into the dining room. "A penny for your thoughts," Mulder asked. He saw his wife's troubled expression. "What's wrong?" Scully looked up from looking at the twins, and faced Mulder. "I'm fine." Mulder knew that his Dana was _not_ fine. "Something is wrong, Dana. What is it?" "Diana," Scully said, simply. "I heard that she was the one who helped you with the X-Files, and that she was your girlfriend." Mulder knew what was troubling his wife. He gently pulled her close to him. "Dana, don't you know how much I love you? I love you so much, and I can't lose you." "Diana is so much like you..." "I don't want to be with someone who seems to be like me," Mulder replied, kissing her auburn hair. "What Diana and I had been finished years ago. Dana, you are the only one that I love." "I wish I could believe it," Scully replied, teary-eyed. FBI Headquarters En Route to the X-Files Basement Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. Scully was headed towards the elevators when she bumped into Jennifer McIntyre, an agent who worked in the Violent Crimes Unit. They were the same age, and they had a wide variety of interests. "Hi Jennifer." "Hi Dana," Jennifer said with a concerned expression on her face. She looked at her friend's troubled expression. "Are you all right? You look as though you had been crying." "Yeah, I had been ever since I found out about Fox and Diana Fowley," Scully sighed. "Do you want to talk about it?" Jennifer asked. "I'm a pretty good listener." She laughed. "I swear I won't tell a soul, not even to Jeffrey Spender." They walked towards the X-Files basement office, and Scully opened the door to her and Mulder's cramped office. Jennifer sat down at one of the chairs in the office. Before they could talk about Scully's problems, Mulder walked in. "Hi, Fox," Scully greeted her husband as she watched him carefully studying at her friend's features. "Is there something wrong?" Mulder shook his head, and looked at Jennifer. She reminded him of someone he had lost. *Could it be? She looks so much like Samantha with those hazel eyes and the same shade of brown like mine.* "You look as though you had seen a ghost," Jennifer remarked, with a wry sense of humor. "You look so much like my sister, Samantha, who abducted when she was eight years old in November of 1973," Mulder replied. "I know that you have some foggy memories..." "That doesn't explain anything," Jennifer replied. Some of her memories of the lost years were coming back to focus. The psychologist in her told her that the repressed memories would come back to her at any time. "I am starting to remember though. A bright light. A boy calling out a name." "Was it Samantha?" Scully asked, gently. The profile that she had wrote about Samantha Mulder's abduction was coming back to her. "Yes, it was," Jennifer said with a sigh. She turned towards Mulder. "Fox, I'm your sister." "I searched for you for a long time. I just can't get over the fact how you'd been under our noses for years," Mulder sighed. "You were talking to Dana about something when I came in..?" Scully spoke up. "I was talking to Jenn...er...Samantha about you. Us. And about Diana. I'll leave the two of you alone to get to know each other." She left the two of them alone to get reacquainted. "She's unsure about your love, Fox," Samantha said thoughtfully. "I think you have to show her how much you love her." "Samantha, I think you're right," Mulder replied. "I can't lose her." He had discovered Samantha, but now he must show Scully how much he trusts and loves her. End of Story Next Up: Discovery of Trust Will Mulder and Scully's marriage survive? Author's Note: I had always wanted to write my own version about what happens if Samantha Mulder returns and deal with the issues from the episode, "The End" and to put it in the "Discovery of..." universe -- which is an alternate universe than the canon of the show. Because of the details I used from the show back in 1998, there are no spoilers from Season 6 through Season 9. This means any spoilers or announcements regarding character changes that occurs during these seasons are not being put together in the "Discovery Universe". However, I'm using material from the original biographies for Samantha Mulder back in the early seasons of the show. According to them, Samantha is the product of Bill Mulder and Teena Mulder. Now since CSM made the clones, he could be father of the cloned Samantha -- it's possible. However, due to the storyline continuity and plot purposes, I left the idea of Samantha and Mulder are the children of Bill Mulder and Teena Mulder. Since we don't know where Jeffery Spender lives, I decided that he lives in Annapolis, MD near where Scully and Mulder live. I decided to give Spender a life since we don't know anything about him. This is a Mulder/Scully romance as they are married. NoRomos are warned. This is a revised version with some small changes. Feedback: Always welcome! Send to: eblair@sonic.net
