Will Mulder and Scully's marriage survive Scully's feelings of uncertainty? ------------------------------------------ DISCOVERY OF TRUST Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------------- Margaret Scully's House Baltimore, MD Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. "Mom, thanks for taking care of little Fox and Dana for us while Fox and I are at work," Dana Scully-Mulder said to her mother, Margaret Scully. They were sitting down on the sofa. Dana still felt uncertain of her husband's love for her. "You're welcome," Margaret replied. "Dana, is there something wrong?" "I'm fine, Mom." "Dana, I know you. When you said "I'm fine"--it usally means that something is wrong," Margaret sighed, concerned. "Are you and Fox having problems?" "Am I that transparent?" Dana asked. She sighed. "Yes, we are. His former partner and girlfriend, Diana Fowley returned from Europe. I think that he still loves her..." "Dana, you're feeling insecure about his love for you," Margaret replied. "Is that right?" Her daughter nodded. "It's normal." "Really?" Dana asked. "Why am I feeling this way?" "I don't know, Dana. Knowing you, I am sure that you will find out," Margaret sighed. "I hope so," Dana replied. "Are you getting ready for Erin's visit?" She was referring to her cousin, Erin Scully, who was visiting from San Francisco, California. She had seen her last when she and Mulder were investigating the Eve clones. Margaret nodded. "Yes, everything is set. I do hope that she likes it here, and doesn't get into too much trouble." "It's been a few years since I had seen her last," Dana remarked. "I wonder if she had changed any." Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Tuesday, Noon Dana and Fox were up in the nursery with their twins, and were looking at them. "They look so much like us, Fox." "I know," Fox smiled. "Whatever happens, I want you to know that I'll always love you and our twins," Dana replied. Fox looked at his wife. He wonder why Dana would say that to him. "Dana, nothing is going to happen to us." He paused. "I love you, Dana." "I wish that I could believe that," Dana replied. "Believe, Dana." FBI Headquarters En Route to the X-Files Basement Office Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. "Fox, how are you?" Special Agent Samantha Mulder asked, as she was walking with her partner, Jeffrey Spender, as they were walking in the hallway when they saw Samantha's brother, Fox Mulder walking towards the elevators. "Dana and I are fine," Fox replied. "Or we will be." He can't believe that he was confiding in Jeffrey Spender along with his sister. "I still can't get over that Jennifer McIntyre, my partner for the past couple of years, is your sister, Samantha," Jeffrey sighed. He looked at his partner, and continued. "I know that I had been a complete jerk to you, and I am sorry for the way I had acted." "Apology accepted," Fox replied. "Is Dana still upset?" Samantha asked. She saw a worried expression on her brother's face. "She still didn't understand how you feel towards her?" "I am sure that she does know how much I love her deep down. I hadn't seen her to this insecure for a long time," Fox sighed. He paused. "I don't think that Dana was ever insecure." "I hadn't known you very well, Mulder, but it doesn't take an idiot to notice how much you love her and the twins," Spender replied. X-Files Basement Office Wednesday, Noon , thought Fox as he sat back into his chair while trying to figure out the Gibson Praise case. He was lost in thought about Dana that he didn't notice her come in. "Fox?" Dana asked. "Are you all right?" "I could say the same thing about you," Fox replied. "I wish that I know how to convince how much I love you." Dana didn't listen to her husband, and she continued. "After I watch Gibson, I will be seeing my cousin, Erin, at Mom's. I will be a little late coming home." "Erin's coming in today?" Fox asked. "Yes, she is," Dana replied. "I'll see you later." She walked out of the office leaving Fox to stare after her. Gibson Praise's room Psychological Center Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. The little boy was watching television when Dana walked in to relieve Diana Fowley. "Hello, Diana." She didn't want to look at her. "I'm here to relieve you." "Thanks, Dana. He can really read people's minds. He asked me if I still love your husband." "Oh," Dana replied. "Did you tell him?" She couldn't help feeling jealous and uncertain. "I told him that I used to, but I have a life now," Diana replied. "It's true. Fox and I are apart of the past." She paused. "I think that I better go now." She left the room. Dana walked towards the window where Gibson was. She noticed that Gibson had a concerned expression. "What's wrong?" "There's a man with gun out there," Gibson said. He paused, and turned towards Dana. "He isn't aiming towards me. He's aiming at you." Dana was startled at the news, and she walked a little closer to the window to see the man. Before she got her own gun out, a shot rang out hitting her. X-Files Basement Office Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. Fox heard a knock on the door, and he opened the door. He was up reading a file when Jeffrey Spender walked into the office. Spender had a concerned expression on his face. He wasn't sure how he is going to tell Fox that Dana was shot. "What is it, Jeffrey?" "Mulder, I have some bad news to tell you," Jeffrey Spender sighed, as he sat down on a chair. "It's about your wife, Dana. She..." "What about Dana?" Fox asked. "She has been shot. She was watching Gibson Praise when it happened," Jeffrey replied. "She has been taken to Northeast Georgetown Medical Center. I think that you better get there as fast as you can. She is in serious condition." Fox gathered his jacket, his keys, and his FBI wallet. He wanted to be there for Dana. Northeast Georgetown Medical Center Wednesday, 2:35 p.m. Fox ran towards the ICU, and he asked a doctor. "Where is she?" "Who?" the doctor asked. "Dana Scully-Mulder," Fox replied. "She was brought in here with a gunshot wound." Dr. Elaine Livingstone walked up towards Fox Mulder and the doctor. "I think that I can take care of this." "You're sure," the doctor asked. "I'm sure," Elaine replied. She watched the doctor leave, and turned towards Fox. "I think that I better tell you how she is. She suffered a gun shot wound in her side. It's serious. They removed the bullet, and there is some blood loss." "She has to live, Elaine. I love her so much and I don't know what I'll do if I lost her," Fox sighed. He paused. "Can I see her?" Elaine nodded. Fox walked into the room where his wife is, and noticed the machines that Dana was hooked up to. The tears was streaming down his face, and he held her hand. "Oh, Dana..." His voice cracked with emotion. "I know that you have your strength of beliefs, but I am here. I love you so much, Dana. I don't know what I'd do without you. I need you so much." Dana opened her eyes, and she focused on her husband. "I love you so much, Fox." Fox smiled warmly at Dana. "Hey, you're awake. How are you feeling?" "My side hurts but I think that I'll live," Dana replied. "I have no idea who did this to me. Or why." She paused. "I realized what I thought I lost..." "What?" Fox said, softly. "I thought that I lost you to Diana. Fox, she's more like you. I didn't think that I had a chance," Dana replied, sighing. "I was jealous of her and I was unsure of our love." "You thought that I want Diana?" Fox asked. He saw his wife nod. "Oh, Dana..." He paused. "I would die if anything happens to you and our children. I love you so much, Dana. I don't want Diana. I want you, Dana Scully-Mulder. You had my heart and my soul for a very long time." "I love you, Fox. You know, you have my soul and my heart for a long time," Dana replied. "I shouldn't have doubted your love. I discovered something else... Something that I had always known, but for some reason, it got lost." "What is it?" Fox asked. He gazed into her blue-green eyes. "Never mind," Dana replied. She was in pain. The pain reliever is starting to wear off. Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD A Few Weeks Later Monday, 9:30 a.m. "Welcome home, Mrs. Mulder," Fox murmured, as he opened the car door for his wife. Dana was released from the hospital that morning, and he helped her out of the car. "I'm so happy that you're all right." "I'm just happy that I'm alive," Dana replied. Her spirits were up with the knowledge of Fox's love for her. Dana thought, as she looked at her husband. They walked into the house, and she saw the sign which said, "Welcome Home, Dana!" over the mantle of the fireplace. "Fox, you don't know what this means to me." "I think that I know how much this means to you, Dana." "You do?" Dana asked, her eyebrows arched quizically. "Yes," Fox said, as he looked into his wife's eyes. "Remember how you told me about how you discovered something but thought it was lost?" "Yes, I remember." "I think that I know. You discovered trust. You hadn't trusted our love." "How amazing," Dana said, with a smile. "Now, I trust our love. I'll never doubt your feelings towards me ever again." She paused. "You know, I think that we should have more children. After I made a full recovery of course. What do you think?" "I think that it can be arranged," Fox replied, smiling.
