Summary: Scully's been teaching at Quantico for two years, but she finds out that she's going to be assigned to the X-Files with her husband, Fox Mulder. -------------------------------------- FIRST DAY OF A NEW OPPORTUNITY Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Alexandria, VA March 5, 1992 "Mulder, you wouldn't believe who that was," Dana Scully-Mulder said, as she put down the receiver in wonderment. She'd been working at Quantico for two years, but had a few months maternity leave. That's one of the reasons why her facial expression was marked by curiousity. Fox Mulder looked up, and wondered what the phone call was all about. "OK, Scully. Who was on the phone?" Scully went to their one year old baby girl, Katherine Dana, who was sitting in her high chair looking adorable with her curly auburn hair and hazel eyes. "I couldn't believe that he called me..." She paused. She decided to change the subject to their daughter. "Katherine's playing with her food again..." "Come on, Scully. Who was it? Who?" Mulder asked, dying with curiousity. "Who was on the phone?" "Section Chief Blevins. He wants me to come to his office tomorrow morning at nine o'clock," Scully said, mystified. "I'm amazed that he wants to see me." She paused. "Do you know anything about this? Heard any rumors? "I'm puzzled about this as you are. Maybe he wants to say how you're such a good teacher of criminal forensic medicine?" Mulder suggested. He paused. "I wouldn't worry about it." "Are you worried about my meeting?" "I'm not worried, Scully. I think that we have other things on our mind these days. Like, for example, who's going to take care of Katherine?" Mulder asked, with a sigh. "I thought that we'd discussed this several months ago..." Scully said, frowned. "We did, Scully. I think that it needs clearing up yet again. I'd been preoccupied lately with this case..." "You mean about the teenagers being abducted in Oregon?" "Yeah... I'm swamped..." "And you want me to help you," Scully said, as she smiled warmly at her husband. "Don't you have a partner?" "You know that I don't. Not since that Diana Fowley ran off to Europe. I guess that I scared her off," Mulder replied. He placed the newspaper down with a frown. "Anyway, if I need backup, I'll let you know." He decided to change the subject and return to the subject of who's going to take care of Katherine. "About Katherine..." "My mother said that she'll take care of her while we're at work." "I know that, Scully. It's just that I don't want us to lose out on our daughter's life..." "We're not going to lose out on her life," Scully said, with a sigh. She paused. "Katherine knows who her parents are. She knows that we love her." "I hope that Blevins doesn't transfer you..." "I doubt it. Anyway, I think that we should wait until we actually come to that bridge." "All right."
