Alternative reality. -------------------------------------- LOST AND FOUND 1/2 Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- "Scully. *Dana*? Are you getting ready? It's almost time for us to leave for our romantic night and to take Emily to visit your mother," Fox Mulder said as he walked into their bedroom. He smiled as he watched his wife of one year, Dana Scully-Mulder, trying to zip the red dress. She had lost some weight after giving birth to their daughter, Emily Katherine, a few months ago. She's delighted that she can now fit into all her clothes that she wore before she had the baby. "Mulder, can you zip this dress?" Dana Scully-Mulder asked, as she saw her husband nod. "Sure," Mulder said, with a smile. He bent over, and zipped up Scully's red dress which showed off her blue eyes and her silky, shoulder-length, auburn hair. He felt her satin smooth skin, and wished that they could make love right now. She looked even more beautiful than she did when they first met when she visited his sister, Samantha, on a college break. "Dana, you look beautiful..." He murmured, as he kissed her on the lips. She turned around, and gave him a kiss. "Thank you." She paused. "Remember, let's not talk about work." "It's hard not to," Mulder said, with a sigh. "In a few months, you'll be back at the X-Files office with me..." "I can't wait," Scully said, as she flashed him a smile. "You don't know how much I miss those stakeouts." She watched her husband as he sat down on the bed beside her. "And our relatives will help take care of Emily while we're away on assignment," Mulder said, as he kissed her again. Ever since he married Scully, he was happy with the way his life changed with their newborn daughter. "Melissa said that she's looking forward to it," Scully replied. The phone rang, and Scully got up to answer it. "Mulder residence? Yes, he is here. We were almost out the door. Hold on a second." She paused. "Mulder, Skinner's on the phone. Something about a hostage crisis." "There goes our evening," Mulder said, with a sigh. He picked up the phone. "Mulder. Scully and I were just going to go out for the evening...Can someone else do that? How about Alex Krycek? He has wanted something big for awhile?" He sighed as he looked his wife, and he knew that their night on the town will just have to wait. "All right, I will go. Tell Agent Kazdin that I will do it." He put down the receiver, and looked sadly at Scully. "I guess that we are going to have to put this off an another night." "I guess so, but there will be other nights," Scully said, assuring him. "Don't worry about it. In any case, Emily and I will visit Mom. I owe her a visit, you know." "This Duane Barry really has me worried for you and for Emily," Mulder said, with a sigh. As he listened to Skinner's voice on the phone, he couldn't help but think of what could happen to his wife and daughter. He was glad that Scully suggested visiting her mother. "He's dangerous. You had seen the file, Scully. It's *that* thick!" "I'll be all right," Scully said, assuringly. "You know me, Mulder, and you seem to forget that I am quite capable of taking care of myself. Remember all of those times that I saved your butt?" "Yes, I know that...but still!" She sighed, and she reverted to what she still called him at work. "Mulder, you know that I am your partner. I am a FBI Special Agent, and if that Duane Barry comes near you, our daughter, and especially, at me, I will take care of him. You know that I will." "I know," Mulder said, with a murmur. He walked over to Scully, and hugged her. "I don't want anything to happen to you or to Emmy." "I don't want anything to happen to you either," Scully said, as she kissed him. "I love you." "I love you too," Mulder said, as he kissed her back. "This case better be quick. I'm serious. If I get out of there a little earlier, I just might head over to your mother's and bring you and Emmy home." "I hope you do that," Scully whispered, as she returned the kiss. They walked into their daughter's room as her husband wanted to look at her before he drives over to the hostage negotiations at the travel agency. She watched him look at their daughter sleeping in her crib. "She's so beautiful, Scully. She has your red hair," Mulder said, as he smiled at their daughter. He bent down, and touched her creamy white skin. "Hello Emily. Daddy and Mommy aren't going out tonight as Daddy has to go someplace to help settle something. Mommy will take you to visit your Grandma Scully." "You make it sound as though it's for a long visit!" Scully said, as she smiled. "It's just going to be for a night. I'll come home as soon as I can." "I'll do the same," Mulder said, as he frowned. "I don't know about you, Scully, but I really am having some bad vibes..." "What kind of bad vibes?" Mulder drew a deep breath. "I don't know. Something unsettling." "Don't tell me that my sister is making you believe in auras now," Scully said, as she smiled at Mulder and Emily. She paused, and noticed her husband's worried expression. "Mulder, you're not afraid of the hostage crisis. Are you?" "I don't know. Maybe," Mulder replied. "You know that I had my share with them." Scully nodded. "I'm afraid that something might happen to either you or Emily. Or to me." "Mulder, you're worrying too much. I'm sure that there's nothing to worry about." He sighed. "I know, Scully. I don't want anything to happen to you, to Emmy, or to myself." "Nothing will," Scully said, as she hugged him. "I have to pack my overnight bag." She looked into her husband's hazel eyes. "Will you be all right?" Mulder nodded. "I'll try." He wanted to tell her something in case something happens. "I want you to know in case something happens..." "Nothing will... I--" "Scully, will you please let me finish?" "Yes, I will." "Scully, whatever happens to me, I want you to know that you're the only one I love." He paused. "Remember that." Later that night, Scully arrived at her mother's with Emily. "Hi Mom!" Scully exclaimed, as she gave her mother a quick hug. Margaret Scully smiled at her daughter and her granddaughter. "Emily's a lot bigger since I last saw her. She has your red hair, your facial features, but she has Fox's hazel eyes." "I know," Scully replied. She walked into the living room, and sat down. "Mulder's worried about me. As usual." She absently fingered her crucifix necklace. She frowned with worry. "Mom, I'm worried." "Why?" Margaret asked, concerned. "What's wrong, Dana?" Scully frowned at her mother, and she drew a deep breath. "It's this case, Mom. I have my doubts about this hostage negotiations. Before I left to see you, Mom, I had done some digging. Duane Barry can't think logically. He can't think what's right or wrong." She gave a horrified gasp. "Mulder's in trouble!" "He can take care of himself, Dana. You know that," her mother assured her. "He doesn't have backup, Mom!" Scully exclaimed. "I'm the one who is usually his backup. I don't trust Alex Krycek either. He doesn't know how stubborn he can be!" She paused. "Mom, can you please hold Emily while I call Fox?" "Sure, Dana." Scully put her daughter into Margaret's arms, while she went to her purse to find her cell phone. She dialed her husband's cell phone number. "Mulder," Mulder said, as he glared at Duane Barry at the hospital. "Mulder, it's me," Scully said. Her voice was full of concern for her husband and partner. "I'm worried about you." "How are you, Scully?" Mulder whispered into his cell phone. He didn't want Duane Barry to know about Scully. "Why are you whispering? Never mind. I'm fine and safe," Scully said, assuringly. "Are you sure?" "I'm all right, Mulder. There's nothing to worry about." Mulder looked at a piece of metal that one of the doctors took out of Duane Barry's stomach. "What is this thing?" He asked into the cell phone. "What is it, Mulder?" Scully asked, worried. "Some piece of metal." "Why don't you scan it?" Scully suggested. "Take it to the labs and have Agent Pendrell take a look at it." "Scully, great idea. I'll do that," Mulder said. "Krycek is going to cover for me and I thought that I better pick some things up at the store. Anything we need?" "Yes," Scully said, as she lit up with a small smile. She didn't know that Mulder knew his way around a grocery store. She decided that it might be useful for him to do the shopping that she was planning for tomorrow morning. "Emily needs some baby food, and you know what I would like?" "What?" "Red wine," Scully said, still smiling. "It's for our dinner tomorrow night. Don't forget to chill it in the refrigerator when you get home." "Yes, Scully," Mulder said, with a smile. As Mulder left the hospital, knowing that Krycek was still keeping a very good watch on Duane Barry, he went to the supermarket to pick up wine, roses, and of course, baby food for their daughter. Impulsively, Mulder got out the metal to scan it, and the machine went bizarre. Some kind of serial number went up, 10131121. As he got to their apartment, he put the baby food in the cupboard, and put the wine in refrigerator as Dana told him to do. After that, he arranged the roses, and put them in the vase. He wrote a message to his wife, "Scully, these roses are for you. I love you. Mulder." He smiled as he loved doing romantic things for his wife. He was expecting his beloved wife and daughter to be home later that night. Mulder decided to call Scully at Margaret Scully's house, but the answering machine picked up. *Dana and Emily must be taking a nap*, he thought. "Scully, it's me. This piece of metal from Duane Barry...I ran it through the scanner, and some kind of serial number came up. What's this thing, Scully? Maybe I'm paranoid, but I think that someone is trying to catalogue him." He paced through the living room, near their computer. He was still talking to the answer machine when Duane Barry crashed through the window and scattering broken glass everywhere . "Scully!!!! Help!!" Mulder exclaimed, as his worst fears about Duane Barry was now confirmed. Instead of Scully, *he* was being abducted. Meanwhile, Scully was tossing and turning as she sensed something was wrong with her husband. "Mulder!" she exclaimed. She woke up suddenly, and she ran to check her mother's answering machine. She heard him being kidnapped for their apartment. "I've got to save him..." She ran to her mother. "Mom! Mulder has been kidnapped by Duane Barry. I've got to save him... I had a dream.." "It's going to be all right, Dana. You'll see," Margaret replied, assuringly. "I will take care of Emily while you search for him and for clues." "Thanks, Mom," Scully whispered with concern. An hour later, Scully arrived at their apartment, and she noticed their window was broken into. Other than that, everything was intact. No stolen possessions. Her gaze looked at the roses, and she picked up the note that Mulder had written. "Oh, Mulder, I love you too. I'm going to find you, and bring you home." She heard a knock on the door, and it was Alex Krycek. "Scully, I'm sorry about Mulder. I just heard from Melissa." Melissa was dating Alex for the past few months. "I can help you find him." Scully looked at him, and she saw sincerity in his brown eyes. "All right. Please tell me everything that you know." "Duane Barry said something interesting about ascending to the stars which could only mean that he is going to take Mulder to Skyland Mountain." "Why?" "I think that he is going to exchange him to them." Scully gasped, and then quickly calmed herself. "If that Duane Barry thinks that he is going to exchange my husband to them, he is going to have to go through me!" "Scully, you have to be careful. I think that they know that Mulder had found something about the metal piece from Duane Barry's stomach. It's possible that someone..." Alex sighed, letting that sentence trail off. He paused. "Mulder is a strong guy, and I am sure that he will everything to get back to you and Emily. However, he will want you to be safe. You can't just fly off the handle. From what Mulder tells me, you always think things through." It was early morning, and Scully had restless night. She had dreamt of what probably is happening to her husband. Dana heard the doorbell ring, and she opened the door and came face to face with Samantha Mulder. "Dana, I had dreamt that Fox was kidnapped... I had a vision of him last night..." "We're going to get him back, and I'm going to need help that I can get." "How are you holding up?" Samantha asked. "Well, for someone whose husband is missing, I'm fine. I guess," Scully said, with a sigh. "I'm trying to be calm and rational, but I'm fooling myself. I'm not fine, Samantha. All I want is for him to be returned to me safe and sound. Not only for me, but for Emily." Samantha nodded. "I can understand. I know I'm not my brother, but I'm a FBI Agent. You're going to need someone to help you." "I do need someone to help me. A long time ago, you were taken," Scully said, as she remembered something that Samantha had told her about when they were in college together. "What did they do to you? I need to know for Fox's sake." "Well, they took most of my ova and three months of my life," Samantha said, bitterly. "I hope that doesn't happen to Fox. These people or aliens...I still don't recall...were horrible." She paused. "There's something that I want to show you. Something that will help us find Fox. There was a policeman who took this photo of the car that Duane Barry was driving. I had Agent Pendrell blow up the photo, and inside the trunk, Fox can be seen. He's alive." "Agent Samantha Mulder and Agent Dana Scully-Mulder are here to see you, sir," the secretary said to the Assistant Director Walter Skinner. "Send them in," Skinner replied. He had a feeling what this visit was about. It had to do with Agent Mulder's abduction. "Scully, I thought that you weren't coming back for another two months." "Circumstances brought me back to my job earlier than I expected, Sir," Scully said, with a sigh. She was referring to her husband's disappearance. "And besides, my mother is taking care of Emily." "I see," Skinner said, thoughtfully. He turned to face Mulder's sister. "What about you?" "Sir, I would like to request that Agent Scully-Mulder and I are assigned to be temporary partners so we can look for Agent Mulder. As you know, I'm assigned to the Violent Crimes and she's assigned to the X-Files. This case is both an X-File and a Violent Crime in my honest opinion, and it's very important to the both of us," Samantha said, with determination to find her brother. "I think that both of you are too close to go over there," Skinner sighed. He saw the Mulder look in Samantha's hazel eyes as well as the Scully look in Dana's blue eyes. He turned towards Scully. "Would you like to be Samantha's partner for awhile until Mulder's found?" Scully nodded. "All right, Agent Mulder, you're temporary partners..." "Don't worry, sir, we'll bring back Agent Mulder safe and sound," Samantha said, as she was grateful for Skinner's support. "Which will end when Mulder's returned," Skinner continued. "We understand," Scully said, as she turned to face Samantha. "Let's go, Samantha." "All right," Samantha said, as she hoped that her brother was all right with this, and hoped that he understood. Deep down, she believed that he would. They walked out of Skinner's office, and headed towards the Violent Crimes Section where Samantha had her office. She was an expert profiler, like her brother, but she wasn't into the paranormal like Mulder. She majored in sociology at University of Maryland where she had met Dana Scully in one of her classes. They were best friends ever since. It was a small office, but it was better than what she had at the Boston Field Office. "You have your own office?" Scully asked, impressed. "I wish that I do." "Oh, come on, Dana, it isn't what it's cracked up to be. I know for a fact that Fox loves sharing an office with you in the basement," Samantha replied. "I bet you play Battleship together, don't you?" "You got me there." Scully got out a map and she traced the route to Skyland Mountain, Virginia. "However, when we get there, we're going to have to go up to the top." "How do you know that? Why would Duane Barry take Fox there?" "Mulder told me a few times that Skyland Mountain is a site where many abductions take place. Alex Krycek told me that Duane Barry was going to ascend to the stars and he wants to exchange Mulder in his place," Dana sighed. "We can't let that happen." Samantha nodded. "I'm not going to let that happen either." She shuddered as she remembered the vague memories of her own abduction. Scully was driving towards Skyland Mountain with Samantha, who was her navigator. "Ok, we're here." They both got out of the car, and looked to see how they were going to go to the top. "On foot? Or take the tram." "The tram would be faster, Dana," Samantha suggested, as she fingered her long, wavy, brown hair. "I agree," Scully said, with a sigh. They briskly walked towards the tram, and they showed their FBI badges to the operator. "This is Special Agent Samantha Mulder and I'm Special Agent Dana Scully. We would like to go to the top of the mountain." When she was at work, she used her maiden name. "All right," the operator said, as he nodded at the FBI agents. They took the tram to the top of the mountain, and they saw Duane Barry shouting and screaming. "That's Duane Barry?" Samantha asked her sister-in-law and temporary partner, with disgusted in her hazel eyes. Scully nodded. "I think so." She paused. "Mulder hadn't gave me any details on what he looked like." They walked a little closer, and they exclaimed. "FBI!" "Where's Fox Mulder?" Scully asked, as she was looking for Mulder in the car. She opened the trunk to where he had been. Inside the trunk laid his watch that she had given him for their anniversary. The watch had their initials engraved on the back on of the watch. DKSM and FWM. Mulder was so touched by this gift that he had worn it ever since. Scully knew that it was so unlike him to take it off. "Samantha, look. It's the watch that I'd given him on our anniversary last year. He never took it off." Duane Barry stopped yelling for a second as he listened to the woman's voice which was full of love for Fox Mulder. He didn't know what he was doing when he kidnapped Mulder. He had no idea that Mulder had family. He looked at the brunette next to her and saw the resemblance between Mulder and this young female agent. He felt sick. Really sick. "Duane Barry didn't harm him. *They* took him!" "Who's they?" Scully asked, demanding an explanation. "You'd not only abducted a FBI Agent, you took my husband!" She knew that she was out of line, but she didn't care. All she cared about was finding Mulder. "They're the ones who took me several times and they also took you," Duane said, as he looked at Samantha. "They are shadowy government figures, and even the military is involved. Just ask them." Samantha and Scully drove back to Washington DC after they placed Duane Barry in protective custody. Samantha saw Scully's sad expression and she hugged her as they walked out of the police station. "It's going to be all right. I survived my abduction - Fox can too." "I hope so. I really hope so," Scully said, with a sigh. End of 1/2 Title: Lost and Found (2/2) Author: Erin M. Summary: What if Mulder and Scully were married and had a child around the time of "Duane Barry/Ascension/One Breath?" Samantha helps Scully to find Mulder. Alternative reality. -------------------------------------- LOST AND FOUND 2/2 Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- A month had went by since Mulder's abduction, Scully decided to return to the X-Files office to work on some cases. Her mother was taking care of Emily while she worked and tried to find answers. There was a knock on the door, and Scully turned around, it was Samantha Mulder. "Still no word, Samantha." "I know," Samantha said, with determination. "We'll find him... I know we will. We can't lose hope yet. Skinner sent me down here so I can give you a hand with the X-Files. He said that it needs a Mulder's touch. He knows that I'm not as "Spooky" as Fox." She paused as she sat down on a chair which Scully used until Mulder gave her a desk. She didn't want to sit down at her brother's desk either. "What case are you working on?" "Some vampire case in Los Angeles," Scully said, with a sigh. "I don't want to do it, but it looks as though I have to fly out there to investigate." She paused. "Want to come along?" "Sure, I'll go. You're going to need someone to bounce off theories," Samantha said, with a small smile. They walked out of the office and headed towards the first floor where Alex Krycek walked up to them. "Where are you going?" "Los Angeles," Scully said, as she wondered why Alex Krycek would even care. "On a case. Vampires." "Scully, I hope you don't do anything drastic," Alex frowned. "You have to hope that he will come back to you. Like your sister said, you're in a dark place. I just hope that you see the light at the end of the tunnel." "Cut it out, Krycek," Samantha said, with a sigh. "Dana doesn't need this, you know. And by the way, who appointed you as her guardian?" "Someone who cares," Alex said, still frowning. "Samantha, I hope that you take care of her. She's very important to her husband, you know." "I know," Samantha replied. She looked at Scully, who was ready to head out of the building. "I've got to go." Samantha and Scully are now in Los Angeles, and at Samantha's urging, they head over to the club where Scully could "live a little." "Samantha, I'm a married woman and a mother in case you forgot," Scully said, as she couldn't believe that her sister-in-law dragged her to a club. This wasn't her usual style. "Fox would understand. I hope," Samantha said, as she knew that her brother wouldn't want her to do a case by herself alone so she was the one who had persuaded Skinner to let her be Scully's "new" partner on the X-Files until Mulder can return. *It will just be awhile,* thought Samantha, *until my brother is found.* She caught a side glance at Scully, and she wasn't holding up very well. A man with dark hair and dark eyes approach. "Hello... You look as though you've lost someone." "Yes," Scully said, as she absentmindly stirred her diet soda. "My husband disappeared." "Her husband's my brother," Samantha added. "My name is Samantha Mulder and this is Dana Scully-Mulder. We're both FBI Agents. We're working on a case about vampire-like deaths." "My name is Chris Kilar," Chris said, with a sigh. "How did you know that we lost someone?" Scully asked. "It's in your eyes," Chris explained. "And your auras." "My aura? What?" Samantha asked, shocked. She bent down and whispered to Scully. "I wish your sister, Melissa, could meet this guy." "I know a little bit about auras. My sister, Melissa, is into the new age philosophy," Scully said, with a smile. "Of course, I'm the one who's the skeptic member of the family." "That she is," Samantha said, smiling. Scully looked at Samantha and Chris with interest, and she wished that Mulder was with her on this case. *I have faith in both of our beliefs that he will be returned to us,* thought Scully. Their case was strange and weren't making much progress. Scully began to suspect some oddities regarding Chris Kilar. "I don't think that Samantha knows that he has connection with The Father, The Son, and the Unholy Spirit." As she arrived at Samantha's hotel room, she caught Samantha in an embrace with Chris. "What are you doing, Samantha?" "I...um...we were just talking," Samantha muttered. She didn't want to see her sister-in-law give her that "look" that she gives her brother sometimes. "I hope that you know what you are getting yourself into," Scully said, with a sigh. She gave her what Mulder calls "the famous Scully look" when she had used it on him to give him one of her theories. She noticed Chris getting buttoning his shirt on. "Hello Chris." "Hello Agent Scully-Mulder," Chris muttered. He turned to face Samantha. "I'll see you later, Samantha." He left the hotel, and head over to his house. He drank his own blood, and set himself on fire. Not for Samantha, but to prove to the group that he is one of them. Samantha and Scully rushed over to the hill, and they saw the house ablaze. Scully fingered her cross, and she thought about how Mulder will return to her. "We will find Fox. I know it now." It has been three months since Mulder was abducted, and Dana was in the kitchen with her sister, Melissa. "Missy, you will be ok taking care of Emily today. Right?" Scully asked. Melissa was about to say something when the phone rang. "Mrs. Mulder?" "Yes, this is she," Scully said, as she twirled the cord. She looked at her daughter and her sister with hope in her eyes. "Your husband is alive, and he is now at the hospital at Georgetown," said an anonymous man. The phone clicked. Scully stared at the phone, and she said to Melissa. "Mulder's alive! He's at the Georgetown Medical Center!" "That's great news," Melissa said, with a smile. "Do you want me to take care of Emily?" Scully nodded. "Yes, I do." She paused. "But yet, I think that both you and Emily should come with me..." Scully arrived at the hospital with Melissa and little Emily, and she saw Samantha at the nurses' desk asking for information. "How did he got here?" Samantha asked. "We don't know, Agent Mulder," the nurse said. She saw Scully, Melissa, and Emily. "I guess you're here about Fox Mulder." "Yes, I am," Scully said, as she nodded. "I'm Dana Scully-Mulder, Fox's wife and partner." She paused. "This is our daughter, Emily, and this is my sister, Melissa." Samantha looked at Melissa, and smiled at her. "Hello Melissa." "Hello Samantha," Melissa said, as she touched her crystal at her neck. She was wearing a floral dress which matched her auburn looks and brown eyes. "I'm happy that Fox has been returned to us. I know how much the both of you missed him." Samantha nodded. "Yes, I missed him very much. Now I know how he had felt when I was taken." Scully walked into her husband's room, and she noticed that he was surrounded by life support equipment. As a doctor, she knew that science and her faith would save him. "You don't how we missed you. I tried everything to bring home, and I'm glad that you're safe now. Your sister has been a great help on the X-Files and we looked for you." Melissa Scully walked into the room, and she placed her hand on her sister's shoulder. "You know, if you want, I can probably help you communicate with him." Scully looked up. "You mean, reading his aura." "His soul," Melissa said, with a sigh. "This will help him to come back to you and the daughter that both of you brought into this world. Would you like to try this for Emily's sake and for him?" Scully wasn't so sure, but she would try anything to communicate with her husband. "Yes." She paused. "What's his aura?" "He's in a dark place, and is trying to decide whether or not to come back," Melissa sighed. "However, you're in a much darker place than Mulder." "Why do you say that?" Scully asked, fingering Emily's auburn hair. "You know how much he means to me, and you know how hard I tried to find word." "What I mean is that your soul is darker. You can't see the hope, and you have to feel that he is here." Scully was going to say something when one of the Lone Gunmen, Frohike, walked in. "Scully, there's something that we found out which could help you find out what had happened to Mulder." He paused. "Who is this? She's hot." "Frohike, this is my sister, Melissa Scully. Melissa, this is Frohike, he's a friend of ours." "Nice to meet you," Frohike replied. "It's nice to meet you too," Melissa said, smiling. "But I'm sure that there is something that you want to tell Dana." "I looked at his chart, Scully, and someone tampered with his DNA. It's branched," Frohike said, as he gave her the charts. "You're a doctor, and let me know what you think." Scully handed Emily over to Melissa, and she took the charts from Frohike to look at. Mulder's immune system looked as though it was decimated, and his DNA was tampered with. "What did they do to him? And why?" The question lingered there for quite some time. Revenge on whoever did this to him was in her soul-the darkness that her sister had mentioned that is in her soul. Scully walked out of her husband's room with Emily, and saw Samantha talking to one of the doctors. "Hello Samantha." Samantha sighed, as she was reading her brother's living will. "Melissa told me about your soul being dark." "Not you too," Scully said, with a grin. "I can't believe that you had listened to her New Age theories." "Whatever you're thinking, don't even think about," Samantha sighed. "That's not going to help him." She paused. "I was reading his living will, and he clearly states...." "I know that," Scully said, with a sigh. She remembered them signing their own living wills after they married. However, she still believed that there was still a chance that he can come out of it. "I think that he can still get out of this all right." "His immune system is decimated," Samantha said, with a sigh. She shouldn't be the one to think of what should be done to her brother, who hadn't gave up on her when she was in a coma. "Maybe you're right, Dana." Samantha looked at Scully's cross necklace. "I think that we better believe that he will come back like you said." "After all, you came back from your coma, Samantha. I know Mulder will come back too," Scully replied, with determination. "He'll come back to me and for little Emily." The little girl had grown during the time her father was away. She was now six months old. Scully walked into Mulder's hospital room with Emily and she sat on a chair by his bedside. She reached out and held his hand gently. "I know that you're here with me and our daughter, Emily, but you always had the strengths of your beliefs. I don't know if that will help bring you back, but I am here. Always. I love you, Fox William Mulder." She got up, and gently, she bent down and kissed him on the mouth. She waited for a few moments, and then, she heard a sound. "Scully?" Mulder asked. He opened his hazel eyes, and looked at his wife and daughter. Scully smiled with emotion as she nodded. "I'm here, Mulder. Always." "I heard you the first time," Mulder replied. He looked at his daughter, and thought she had gotten a little bit bigger than he saw her last. "How long was I gone?" "Three months, Mulder. Things hadn't changed that much around here," Scully said, with a sigh. "Emmy is six months old." "She has gotten big," Mulder said, weakly. "I feel bad at losing out on those three months. I don't remember a thing after Duane Barry." *They took three months out of my life,* thought Mulder, angrily. He had a feeling that either aliens or the military had taken him. He knew that he was angry at the precious time that he had lost. He wished that he could have spent it with his wife and daughter. "Don't be, Mulder," Scully said, softly. "I'm just thankful that you're back with us. I'm sure that you will remember what happened in time." "I hope so, Scully. So, what cases have you worked on?" "Oh, this vampire case in Los Angeles," Scully said, with a shrug. She rather not tell her husband of it. "It's no big deal." "Oh?" Mulder asked. "Not a big deal. Oh, come on, I want to know everything." He paused. "How's Samantha?" "She was my "temporary" partner until you had come back to me..." "And I have," Mulder said, as he tried to picture his sister working with Scully. "Well?" "Samantha had a "close encounter" with some vampire want to be," Scully said, with a smile. "I'm sure that your sister will tell you all." Mulder nodded. "A close encounter? Don't tell me what I think you're implying." "I'm not going to say anything more about that," Scully said, still smiling. "Were you abducted by little grey men?" She was trying to make light of his obsession with the paranormal. "Ha. Ha. Very funny," Mulder said, as he grinned. "I would think that I would remember that!" He paused. "I missed you." "I missed you. I'm very happy that you are back." "Me too," Mulder said, as he gently kissed her. "I love you, Dana Katherine Scully-Mulder, and I love our daughter, Emily Katherine Mulder." He paused. "She's beginning to look so much like you." "I think that she will look like you too," Scully said, as she returned his kiss. A few weeks later, Fox Mulder was back at their X-Files office, and he smiled as he watched his wife walked into the door with their daughter. He watched her carefully place Emily into a crib which was set up near the file cabinets. "Scully, are you sure that Skinner won't mind?" "Oh, I don't think that he'll care," Scully said, she smiled at her husband. "I thought that if Emily sees what we do. Maybe she'll be a Special Agent one day just like us." "I would love to see that happen," Mulder said, as he was looking at some of the files that Scully and Samantha had worked on while he was away. His smile disappeared when he saw the X-File on himself. "Scully?" "What?" Scully asked, as she walked towards his desk. "What's wrong, Mulder?" "I saw this file on me when I was abducted." "Finding you was very important to me. It was kind of hard to do any other work." "I understand," Mulder replied. He gave her a hug. "You don't know how much your faith has helped me." End of Story
