No infrigement is intended. However, the children of Mulder and Scully are mine as well as Scully's cousin, Erin Scully. The character of Erin is modeled after me. Well, sort of. =) Author's Note: This is the follows the story "Discovery of Trust" in the ongoing "Discovery" series and it's set in the Discovery/A Twist Of universe. I saw the movie for a total of ten times (Is it me or this movie addicting?) and it just rocks! Like I said in the disclaimer, Erin Scully is Dana Scully-Mulder's cousin from her paternal side of the family. Like Dana, she's a forensic pathologist who recently transferred to the Dallas Field Office. She has auburn hair and blue-green eyes. Just a FYI. Summary: Scully and Mulder are expecting a new addition to the family when things got complicated when they are called out to Dallas. ----------------------------------------------- DISCOVERY OF A NEW HOPE Written by: Erin M. Blair ----------------------------------------------- Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. "Dana, are you all right?" Fox Mulder asked his wife who was still in the bathroom. "I'm fine," Dana Scully-Mulder replied. She walked out of the bathroom which was connected to their bedroom. She saw her husband's concerned look on his face. "It's morning sickness. It's expected in the first trimester and especially in the first month of pregnancy." "Are you sure that you don't want to stay home while I go to Dallas?" Mulder asked. "I don't want to take any chances, especially what happened to you a couple of months ago." He remembered when his wife got shot while babysitting for Gibson Praise. "I don't want anything to happen to you." "I'm going," Scully replied, as she put on her jacket on. "And besides, someone has to watch your back." "I know," Mulder answered. "I want you to be careful, especially since we found out that we're expecting again." "Fox, I'm careful, you know that," Scully sighed. "I think that you're being a protective husband and father as usual." She gave him a tender kiss on the lips. "And I love you for it." "You do?" Mulder asked, as he returned her kiss. "Of course I do," Scully replied. She picked up her "to do" list. "Samantha wants to babysit Fox Jr. and Dana." "Maybe we should take them?" Mulder suggested, as he smiled at his wife. "Fox, we discussed this before a million times. They are babies, and---" "Think about it, Dana. We haven't had a vacation for a long time..." "I know you mean well, Fox. I don't think that it's time for us to bring them. Samantha had volunteered to help out," Scully replied. "When the twins are a little older... Maybe." "You win," Mulder sighed. "Only because you know what it's best." He paused. "Most of the time." "Like when?" "There are times when I have to save you," Mulder replied. "But that's a few times, Fox. I had saved your butt several times," Scully replied. "I can take care of myself." "What happens if you can't?" Mulder asked his wife. "What if something goes wrong?" "Nothing will happen to me," Scully replied, as she pulled him close to her for a hug. "I love you, Fox." "And I love you, Dana." Federal Building Dallas, Texas One Week Later Monday, 2:00 p.m. Scully was walking on the roof, looking for the bomb. She was hot, thirsty, and exhausted after climbing several flights of stairs. She took out her cell phone. "Mulder, it's me." Even though they are married, they still call each other by their last names while they were working. At home, they are Fox and Dana, but at work, they must remain Mulder and Scully. "Me who?" Mulder asked, jokingly. He was under the AC unit. "Your wife," Scully replied. "And the mother of your children." She sighed. "This is no time for jokes." "I was right." "Right about what?" "You should have stayed home," Mulder replied, concerned. "It's not that. I climbed several flights of stairs. I'm hot and thirsty. And I am wondering why we are here," Scully replied. "You're looking for the bomb," Mulder answered. "I know that," Scully said, with a sigh. "When a terrorist bomb strikes, our purpose is to find the bomb. Statistics shows us that when a bomb threat is called in, there is usually an explosive device." She waited for a few seconds and she hadn't heard her husband. "Mulder?" Mulder appeared behind his wife. "Boo!" Like his wife, he was wearing a dark blue FBI jacket with yellow lettering. They were wearing dark blue slacks, and different colored shirts. He was wearing a blue t-shirt underneath his jacket while his wife was wearing a white t-shirt. "Jesus, Mulder. You scared me," Scully smiled. "I know that this is boring for you." "You have to be alert to extreme possibilities, Dana," Mulder replied. "You never know what could happen." "We're not on an X-Files case, Mulder. You know that. We have to follow procedure. You know, protocol," Scully replied. "I know that," Mulder replied. "I think that we needed a break from those cases anyway." He heard a ringing from a cell phone. "Scully? Isn't that your cell phone." Scully nodded, and she picked it up. "Scully." She paused when she heard her cousin on the phone. "Erin! Where are you?" She looked at Mulder. "It's my cousin, Erin." Erin Scully was at the Dallas FBI field office, and she was in the forensic department. "I am at the Dallas Field Office. I found some very interesting information..." "Can it wait, Erin?" Scully asked. "Mulder and I are looking for a bomb..." "I know that," Erin replied. "You're still calling him Mulder? I thought that you're married to him." "You always ask that question, don't you?" Scully asked, smiling. "Basically, we decided that we'll call each other Mulder and Scully at work. In private, however, we are Fox and Dana," She wondered why Erin was calling. "Why are you calling?" "This has something to do with that bomb," Erin answered, in a professional manner. Scully saw her husband's impatient expression and decided to end the conversation. "Erin, we'll talk later." She disconnected the phone, and she put her cell phone in her jacket pocket. "What did Erin want?" Mulder asked, as they walked towards the door. "She has some info for us," Scully asked. "It's locked." She saw her husband's face light up with panic. She jiggled the door. and Mulder went to open it. She grinned. "I had you." "No, you didn't." "I had you big time," Scully said, grinning. They walked through the door, and stepped into the elevator. "I saw you with that look." "I *did* not!" Mulder exclaimed. "Yes, you did," Scully replied, as they walked out of the elevator into the lobby. A group of school kids were admiring her FBI jacket. "When I panic, I use this face," Mulder replied. He showed his wife a deadpan facial expression as his eyes glanced at the side of the elevators. "That's the look," Scully replied, smiling. "That's the look that you were making." She paused. "You're buying." "Next time you are buying, Dana. Ok, what do you want? Coke? Pepsi? Diet Coke? A saline IV?" "Something sweet," Scully said, as she flashed a victory smile. She watched her husband enter the vending machine. Mulder entered vending machine room, fishing out his change from his pocket. He put some of it into the machine, and pressed the button for a Coke. Nothing came out. He shook the machine, and then, he went to the see if the plug was in there. He opened up the vending machine and he called his wife on the cell phone. He tried to get out of the room, but was locked in. "Scully," Scully answered. "I found the bomb," Mulder replied. "It's in the vending machine." He banged on the door. Scully walked over to the vending room. "Is that you pounding?" "I'm locked in with it, Scully," Mulder answered. He looked at the digital read out. "You have thirteen minutes to evacuate the building." "Are you joking?" "Do I sound like I am joking?" Mulder asked. "You have thirteen point fifteen...thirteen point fourteen... Do you see the pattern?" Scully bent down to check out the door knob, and she saw that it was recently worked on so it would lock. "I'm going to get help. I'll get you out of there." She hurried out to the lobby, and went towards the security desk. "I need this place evacuated and cleared out in ten minutes. I need you to call the fire department to clear out the buildings with a ten mile radius." "In *ten* minutes?" the stunned office clerk asked. "DON'T THINK! JUST PICK UP THE PHONE AND MAKE IT HAPPEN," Scully shouted. She left them, and dialed Special Agent in Charge Darius Michaud's cell phone number. "This is Special Agent Dana Scully-Mulder, and I need to speak with S.A.C. Darius Michaud. Tell him he's got the wrong building." She paused. She was trying to brave for her husband, but she was scared for his safety. "You're going to be safe, Fox." She walked out of the building to meet Darius Michaud, and she saw police cars, fire engines, and all sorts of law enforcement to help with the FBI bomb squad. "Where is he?" SAC Darius Michaud asked, as he walked towards Scully. "Mulder is trapped inside the vending room with the bomb inside the coke machine," Scully explained. Darius exclaimed to an another FBI agent. "We need the blow torch." He turned to Scully. "Show me the way." "I'll show you," Scully replied. She took him to where the vending room was, while a fellow FBI agent walked towards them with the blow torch. She watched as SAC Michaud used the blow torch to destroy the door. She got out her cell phone, and dialed Mulder's cell phone number. "Mulder, it's me." "You know that face that I showed you?" Mulder asked, as he stared at the clock hearing the ticking of the bomb. He didn't want to admit this to anyone that he was petrified. "Yes, I remember," Scully sighed. She was standing outside near the door. "I'm making it now," Mulder replied. "Fox, move away from the door. We're coming through it," Scully said. Mulder moved back away from the door, and it fell down. He watched as his wife walked near him as well as his other fellow FBI agents, including Michaud. "Fox, are you all right?" Scully whispered. "Considering," Mulder answered. He saw his wife's concerned look for him. "I'm all right, Dana." Then, he faced Michaud. "Tell me that's not soda." "It's what it looks like. Big I. E. D. Ten gallons of astrolite. Get everyone out of here, and clear out the building," Michaud replied. "Somebody has to stay with you," Mulder replied, thinking of the FBI's tactic rule when disarming the bomb. "Did you hear what I said?" Michaud asked. "That's an order." "Mulder, let's go," Scully replied. She faced Michaud. "Can you defuse it?" "Yes, I can," Michaud replied. He knew that he wasn't going to defuse the bomb, but he didn't want to kill any innocent lives. "You have exactly four minutes to find out," Mulder answered. "Go! That's an order!" Michaud exclaimed. Scully turned towards Mulder. "We better go," Scully replied. She dragged her husband out of the building, and heard an "all clear" from a fellow agent. She saw her husband heading towards the building. "Fox! What are you doing?" "Something's wrong!" Mulder exclaimed. He was wondering why S.A.C. Michaud hadn't exited the building. "There's no time!" Scully exclaimed, as she pulled him towards the car. "Get in!" Mulder and Scully got into the car, and sped off. They both turned around at the same time to see the bomb went off. The force of the bomb destroyed the building as it caused several car accidents. In shock, Mulder and Scully got out of the car seeing the destruction. "Are you hurt, Fox?" Scully asked, concerned. "I'm all right," Mulder replied. "Next time you're buying, Dana." He was in shock at seeing the building destroyed. "I'm grateful that we're alive," Scully sighed. She looked at her husband. "I almost lost you." "I know," Mulder answered. FBI Field Office Dallas, Texas Monday, 4:00 p.m. "Mulder, I wonder what Erin wants," Scully replied, as they walked in the corrider. "She sounded mysterious on the phone." They were now dressed in their standard FBI attire. She was in a navy blue dress, and her husband was wearing a light blue shirt with tie, a navy jacket, and matching pants. "I don't know," Mulder replied. They walked into the office where Erin Scully was. She was surrounded by bone fragments. "Hi Erin." "Hello Mulder," Erin answered. "And hello Dana!" She gave her cousin a hug. She looked like a young Dana Scully with her long, auburn hair and blue-green eyes. She was wearing a light blue suit which matched her eyes. She was originally at the San Francisco Field Office, but was recently transferred to the Dallas Field Office. Like Scully, her expertise in forensic medicine. "I have something to show the both of you." "What is it?" Scully asked. "Something that the FEMA had dug up this morning. Fossils. I looked under the microscope, and well, look for yourself," Erin replied. She watched as Scully looked into it. "What do you think?" "Have you seen this before?" Mulder asked his wife. "No. It's something that I had never seen before," Scully replied. "Mulder? It looks like some kind of serious infection." Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD One Day Later Tuesday, 8:00 a.m. "Fox, you can't miss the meeting," Scully replied, as she was changing baby Dana's diaper in the bathroom. She looked at the baby's auburn hair and blue-green eyes. Little Dana looked up at her mother with a joyful smile. "It would be awful." "I won't," Mulder answered. He was in their bedroom putting on his blue shirt. "I know how important this meeting is." He paused. "Dana?" Scully got out of the bathroom with baby Dana in her arms, and she saw a concerned expression on her husband's face. "What is it, Fox?" "Whatever happens, I love you," Mulder replied, as he took baby Dana from his wife's arms. "And our children." "I love you too." FBI Headquarters J. Edgar Hoover Building Office of Professional Review Washington DC Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. Dana Scully-Mulder walked into the Office of Professional Review, and she looked at her watch. She looked at the Assistant Directors who were sitting at the table which included Walter Skinner and Jana Cassidy. "Agent Scully," Jana Cassidy said, as she was looking at a file in front of her. She was an older woman with blonde hair and looked as though she was in her fifties. She obviously had no idea that Dana Scully was married to Fox Mulder. "As you know that we are trying to present what happened to the Attorney General so she can take action. From what we gathered, three people had died." Mulder walked into the room, and he saw that his FBI tag was flipped to the side. He fixed it as he walked towards his wife. "Sorry I am late." "The three people that died in the bombing are: Special Agent-in-Charge Darius Michaud, who was trying to defuse the bomb, a fireman, and a little boy," AD Cassidy replied. "Did you say three people had died?" Mulder asked. "Agent Scully-Mulder and I were told that the building was clear." "Since you were late coming in, Agent Mulder. Will you please step outside while we talk to Agent Scully?" AD Cassidy asked, in a no nonsense voice. Scully watched as her husband leave the room. She wasn't looking forward to this meeting. She watched Skinner walk out of the room. Outside of the Office of Professional Review Wednesday, 9:45 a.m. Skinner walked out to see Mulder, who was sitting down on the bench. His jacket was next to him. "They are still talking to your wife, Mulder." "What about?" Mulder asked. "They are asking for a narrative on why she was at the wrong building," Skinner replied. "She was with me," Mulder answered. "I had an hunch of where the bomb would be. I know that call came from the federal building, but it was too well guarded. We decided to search the building across the street." "If you hadn't, many would have been killed," Skinner replied. "However, they still want to blame both you and Agent Scully-Mulder." He paused. "You and I both know when it looks bad, it's bad for the FBI." "They can blame me, Skinner. I don't want my wife to be blamed for this," Mulder sighed. He was going to say something else when Scully walked out of the Office of Professional Review. "Sir, they are asking for you," Scully replied to Skinner, who nodded. She watch him walk back into the office. "Scully, what happened? Whatever you told them in there, you don't have to protect me," Mulder replied. "All I told was the truth," Scully sighed. "They are trying to divide us, Dana. We mustn't let them divide us," Mulder replied. "They have divided us, Fox," Scully sighed. Her eyes were in deep despair of the thought of being apart from her husband and children. "What? What are talking about?" Mulder asked, as he hoped that he had heard wrong. "I have a meeting with OPR to talk about reassignment," Scully sighed. "Why?" "I think that you know why," Scully replied. She saw a look across her husband's face. "They are not the ones doing this." "We're married, Dana. Don't they know that? We are expecting again. Why are they doing this to us?" Mulder asked, as he took his wife in his arms. "I know Skinner knows. He was at our wedding. However, everyone else doesn't know that we are married. I know that AD Cassidy referred to me as Agent Scully even when you corrected her mistake, Fox," Scully said, with a sigh. "After that, she still called me Agent Scully." "How odd," Mulder replied. "Are you all right, Dana? I know that you haven't rested since we got back from Dallas. You are carrying our baby, and I don't want anything to happen." "I'm all right," Scully said, with a small smile. "You're being the protective father again.." "I know," Mulder said, with a sigh. He whispered into her ear. "No one is going to tear us apart." "No one will," Scully murmured. "I love you, Fox. We will survive this. I know we will." "We just have to gather evidence to prove them wrong," Mulder answered. Skinner walked into the room, and asked for Mulder. "Agent Mulder, they want to see you now." "All right," Mulder replied. He faced his wife and partner, and he tried to give her a smile. "It's my turn to face them." "Good luck," Scully sighed. She was almost in tears, and her husband gave her a kiss. As Mulder started walking towards the door, she noticed that his jacket was laying on the chair. "Mulder. Your jacket." Mulder walked up to Scully. "Thanks, Scully. Are you going to be all right? Why don't you go home? I will see you when I'm done." "All right," Scully said, as she sighed. "Promise me that you aren't going to do something stupid." "Would I?" Mulder asked, as he smiled a little. "Yes, you would." "No, I wouldn't," Mulder said, as he smiled. He turned his attention from his wife to the OPR door. He knew that he couldn't let them wait. "I have to go. I'll see you soon." Scully watched her husband enter the OPR room, and she almost sobbed. she thought, as she was walking out of the hallway. Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. "Hi Mom," Scully sighed, as she called out to her mother who was babysitting the twins. "How are Fox Jr. and Dana?" "They're fine. They are in their cribs asleep," Margaret Scully replied. She looked at her daughter's saddened expression. "Dana, what's wrong?" "Mom, they're trying to split us up." "They can't do that," Margaret replied. "You and Fox are married and have twins. Besides, you are pregnant again." "The FBI doesn't care if they are splitting us up, Mom. They tried to split us up for years even before we married. Remember a few years back when they separated us? When they shut us down?" "Yes, I do. Why?" Margaret replied. "They almost killed me, Mom," Scully sighed, as she vaguely remembered her abduction. She sat down on the couch. She looked up at her mother with a concerned expression. "I don't want Fox to know how worried I am. I feel that they might try to do the same thing to me again. Only worse." "Nothing is going to happen to you." "How come I have this feeling that they are going to separate us? I know that I shouldn't, Mom," Scully said, with a sigh. She paused. "I think that I should find a way for this not to happen." "How?" "I don't know, but I will think of a way. I have to. Not for me, but for Fox and our children," Scully replied, with a determined expression. She picked up a photo of their one year old twins. "If I have to quit the FBI, I will." "Fox won't like that," Margaret warned. "You know that." "I know," Scully answered, with a sigh. She knew that her husband wouldn't like the idea. She was determined that she wouldn't be separated from Fox and her children. "I won't be separated from them, Mom." "You won't be." "They are my new hope," Scully replied. "They are my strength. Without them, I'm lost." Scully found a new hope in her family, and she would fight for them to be together. Without that hope, she couldn't fight the future. End of Story Coming Soon: Discovery of Faith Scully's infected by a bee carrying an alien virus, and Mulder saves Scully by injecting her with the vaccine. Will their babies survive?
