Fourth installment in the "Discovery" series. -------------------------------------------- DISCOVERY OF A NEW LIFE Written by: Erin M. Blair --------------------------------------------- Dana Scully's apartment Annapolis, MD Monday morning 9:00 am. Dana Scully looked into the mirror, and saw how the pregnancy had changed her. Her face was fuller, and the pregnancy was showing. She was dressed in a cream colored suit which was one of her latest maternity outfits. "I'm in my fourth month, and I still can't believe that I'm having Fox Mulder's child. On top of that, in a week, I'll finally be Mrs. Dana Mulder." Fox Mulder walked into the room. "Or Special Agent Dana Katherine Scully-Mulder. How come I have this feeling that you're going to hyphenate the two last names?" He took her in his arms, and he kissed her. "You know that if I drop the "Scully" name people are going to be confused," Scully said, with a smile. She looked into her fiance's hazel eyes. She paused. "Today's the day we're going to go over the wedding plans and to see how the baby is doing." She leaned against him, thinking of how things had worked out between the two of them since she discovered that he was once married briefly to Julianne Anderman, the former Special Agent turned actress on a FBI show. "I can't wait for you to be my wife and the mother of my child," Mulder said, as he felt Scully's lips on his own. He paused, as he returned the kiss. "I think that we had waited a long time..." "I wish that we had gotten married sooner," Scully said, with a sigh. "Don't you?" Mulder knew that she was right. He had always thought that they should have married a long time ago, but now it's really happening. They are going to be married and have children. "I'd thought that it would never happen, Scully." Especially after learning some of the details of Scully's abduction from one of the Kurt Crawford clones at the Lombard Research Facility while she was going for cancer treatment at the Allentown-Bethlehem Medical Center. Four months ago, they created a little miracle--their baby, which was growing inside of Scully. The results which originally stated that Scully could never conceive a child were wrong as she still had a lot of ova left--they didn't take much of her ova during her abduction as previously thought. "Me too," Scully whispered. "I thought that I could never have children after the abduction and my cancer." She looked at her growing stomach. "Now, I can see the proof." "I know," Mulder said, with a smile. He gently stroked his wife's stomach. "That's our little Dana in there." "Are you sure that you want to name the baby after me?" Scully asked, concerned. She paused. "She's going to be very confused." "Yes, I want her name to be Dana Katherine Mulder. I don't think that she'll be confused. We'll just call her Dani," Mulder said, as he looked at his watch. "I think that it's time to go to see how baby Dana is doing." "We don't know if the baby is going to be a girl," Scully said, with a smile. She put on her tan colored trenchcoat on, and walked with Mulder out to their blue Ford Taurus. "How come I have this feeling that we are going to have a girl?" Mulder asked, as he got into the drivers' seat. "I don't know. Maybe you have good instincts, Mulder." Northeast Georgetown Medical Center Dr. Elaine Livingstone's office Monday morning 11:00 a.m. "So how's the baby doing?" Scully asked. She was sitting with Mulder in Dr. Elaine Livingstone's office going over the sonagram. "The babies are doing fine," Elaine remarked. "Did you mean that Dana and I are going to have twins?" Mulder asked. His expression was of total shock. He wasn't expecting two miracles. "Wow, I've never expected..." Scully said, shocked. She couldn't believe the news. She saw this news as a blessing. The twins were...are...a blessing to make up for all of the unhappiness that both of them had faced for the past five years. "This is a double blessing." "Would you like to know the sex?" Elaine asked the couple. "Yes," Mulder said, as he looked at Scully to see her reaction about the news of the twins. She still looked shocked. He reached for Scully's hand, and squeezed it. "I would like to know as well," Scully said, as she returned Mulder's squeeze. "According to the sonagram, it looks like you are going to be parents of fraternal twin girls," Elaine said. "Hey, Dana, I guess we are going to have pick an another name out." "I guess so," Dana replied. After leaving Elaine's office, Scully and Mulder were walking to their car. "I guess we are going to be parents of twins," Mulder said, with a smile. "I just thought of an another name. Melissa. You know, in honor of your sister." "You're sure?" Scully asked. "I thought that you would like to name our other child after Samantha." Mulder nodded. "Unless you have some other good ideas." "Isn't Samantha and Melissa a little too predictable? Some people might think so..." "Some people might think that, but it's our children. We have a right to say what their names will be..." Mulder said, as he trailed off. "You already named one of the twins, Mulder. I can pick out the other name. Right?" "Sure," Mulder said, with a sigh. "Maybe we should wait until the twins are born. Deal?" "Deal," Scully said. "Let's go to the office, and plan our wedding. Ok?" "I think that we better," Mulder said, with a sigh. "Or we'll end up getting married when you're in labor." Scully laughed. "Wouldn't that be something? We wouldn't want that..." The Wedding of Mulder and Scully Washington DC area church One Week Later Scully was putting on her red lipstick for the finishing touches as today was the one of the most important days in her life. She was going to become Mrs. Fox William Mulder. She had thought that the day would never arrive, but now it had. She was wearing a long, lacy, white bridal gown with a flowing train. Her mother, Margaret Scully, was helping her getting ready for the big day. "Are you nervous?" "Sort of," Scully said, with a sigh. "I can't believe that this is really happening." She looked down at her pregnant stomach, and then looked at her mother. "I'm going to married to Mulder, and pretty soon, I'm going to be a mother. I thought that it would never happen. But it is." "I had thought that this day would never happen to you, Dana, but it has come true," Margaret said, as she smiled at her daughter. "I love you, honey. You're going to make a wonderful bride and mother." "I love you too, Mom," Scully said, with a smile. She hugged her mother. They both heard the wedding march music. "It's time..." She paused, thinking of her deceased father. "I wish Dad was here." "I know you do, Dana. He's here with you always," Margaret replied. She returned her daughter's hug. "I'm sure that he would be happy that you had found the man that you're going to marry today." They entered the church where Dana saw Fox standing at the altar with their Assistant Director Walter Skinner as his best man. Skinner saw the love that Fox Mulder had for Dana Scully in his hazel eyes, and he was very touched by it. However, he knew the both agents were wondering if he was going to separate them after the wedding or after Dana had given birth. "Don't worry, Mulder. I'm not going to separate you and Scully." "That's good to hear," Mulder said, as he saw Scully in a lovely white bridal gown walking down the aisle to meet him. Mulder thought to himself. Although he was married briefly to Julianne Anderman, he couldn't help thinking that he was getting married for real this time. What he had felt for Julianne was pure infatuation--it wasn't love. Not the love he felt for Scully. Their love was tested through five years of hardship, and it still continued to grow. "Scully will be thrilled." "I'm sure that she will be," Skinner replied. "I'm very happy that everything is going to work out for the both of you." "Me too," Mulder said, as he saw his bride walked up. He murmured to Scully in a low voice. "You look beautiful." "You look very handsome as usual," Scully said, with a smile. "We're here to witness the marriage of Dana Katherine Scully to this man, Fox William Mulder. Who gives the woman?" Father McCue asked the wedding party. "Her mother," Margaret Scully replied. "Rings please," Father McCue said. Skinner gave Mulder the ring to give to Scully, and Margaret gave the ring to Scully. "Do you take Dana Katherine Scully to be your bride in sickness and health to death shall you part?" Father McCue asked Mulder. "I do," Mulder replied. He had always taken care of Dana Scully in sickness and health during the past five years of their partnership. He held out his hand so Scully put the ring on his finger. Father McCue asked the same question to Scully, but of course, worded differently. "Do you take Fox William Mulder to be your lawfully wedded husband in sickness and health to death shall you part?" "Yes, I do," Scully said, as she thought about how she had taken care of Fox Mulder through out their five years of partnership in the FBI from administering his wounds to being there for him. Spiritually, they were already married but now this is official. She held out her hand as Mulder put the ring on her finger. "By the powers vested in me, you're now husband and wife. You're now Fox and Dana Mulder. Fox, you can kiss the bride." "Gladly," Mulder said, as he kissed his wife passionately. The kiss was long and sweet. When the kiss broke off, they heard clapping. "I guess everyone is happy for us." "I guess so," Scully laughed. "How does it feel to be Mrs. Fox William Mulder?" Mulder asked, with a smile. "I'll let you know when we get to the very easy part," Scully said, as she grinned at her husband. She remembered the words that Mulder had said to her when they first became partners. Dana and Fox Mulder's residence Annapolis, MD Five Months Later Tuesday afternoon Noon Scully and Mulder were going over baby names for the second girl. They had already agreed to name one of them after Scully. "What happens if we're having a boy and a girl, Mulder? Shouldn't we have some boy names on hand, just in case?" "We should, Scully. I thought that you want to name our son after me since I want to name our daughter after you," Mulder said, as he looked over the baby names that Scully had written down on the sheet of stationary. "Doesn't bother you if we name our son after you?" Scully asked, as she looked at Mulder. "Well, I had thought long and hard about this... You know that I had never really loved my name?" Scully nodded. "Yes. You told me on a stakeout that you made your parents call you Mulder..." "I don't know why I had said that to you... I guess that I was scared. My parents always called me "Fox" and so did my sister," Mulder said, with a sigh. "The truth was I was afraid of our relationship... That we were becoming too close, and I was afraid that I might lose you... That's why I decided to put up the walls..." Scully felt the contractions, and she had a feeling that it's time for her to give birth to their twins. "Mulder!! I think that it's time!" "I'll say," Mulder replied. He told himself to stay calm. He didn't want Scully to know how frightened that he was. What happens if something goes wrong? Scully looked up at Mulder, and saw his worried expression. Although she was in pain from the contractions, she wanted to reassure her husband. "Mulder, I know that you're worried. I *am* too. I'll always be with you. No matter what happens. These babies are going to be born, and I can't wait to shower all the love on these two miracles." "Let's go have the babies, Dana," Mulder replied, as he kissed her. Northeast Georgetown Medical Center Tuesday afternoon 12:40 p.m. "Ok, Dana, push!" Fox exclaimed, urging his wife to push. "I am pushing, Fox. I would love to see you try to do this," Dana replied, as she pushed the first baby with all of her effort. "It's a girl!" Dr. Elaine Livingstone exclaimed. The baby was moving her arms and legs while crying. The baby had Dana's auburn hair color and her china doll features. She showed Fox and Dana the baby. "She looks like you, Dana." "I know," Dana replied. She knew that she had push an another baby into the world. She started to push. Fox smiled as he saw their baby girl, and Elaine was right. She did look so much like his Dana. "Our first daughter is going to be named Dana Katherine Mulder. What do you think?" "I think that it's fine, Fox. She does look like me. It's fitting," Dana replied, as she was pushing. Elaine gave the baby girl to the nurse to clean the baby, while she helped Dana and Fox to deliver the second baby. "Ok, Dana, I see the head. Just one more push..." Dana gave one push, and their other baby was born. "It's a boy!" Elaine exclaimed. "I thought that you were going to give birth to girls..." She held the baby boy to show him to his parents. Fox was holding their daughter, while Dana held their son. "Ok, Fox, what are we going to name him?" "I thought that we agreed to name him after me. We are going to name him Fox William Mulder Jr," Fox replied, looking at their son. "You know how little Dana looks like you?" "Yes, I do. Why?" Dana asked. She looked at their son's brown hair. "I think that I know what you mean. He does look like you, but he has my nose." She paused. "Do you want more?" "Sure, I think that we can manage that after all we've been through for the past five years," Fox smiled. He looked at his wife, and their twins. "I thought that we would never have children, but I guess we were wrong. I think that seeing you deliver our two miracles, we discovered our new life as a family." "I had the same feeling, Fox. No one can't do anything to us because we are stronger with our children," Dana replied. "As if we weren't stronger before..." End of Story
