Title: Discovery of Faith I Author: Erin M. Blair E-Mail: eblair@sonic.net Classification: SRA--Story, Romance, Angst Content: Mulder/Scully Married. Spoiler: X-Files: Fight the Future Movie. Small spoilers from Tunguska and Terma. Rating: PG Archive: DO NOT forward to ATXC. OK to archive: Xemplary, Gossamer, and Soulmates Eternal. Others, please ask first. Disclaimer: The characters of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully(-Mulder) aren't mine. They belong to Chris Carter, 1013 Productions, and the FOX Network. No infringment is intended. The character of Scully's cousin, Erin Scully, belongs to me. Author's Note: This story follows "Discovery of a New Hope" in the Discovery Series. This story is set in the Discovery/A Twist Of Universe. I strongly advise you to read the previous stories in the Discovery Series as well as the Twist Of stories as they are linked. As for the names, I'd decided when I first started the Discovery Series that they would be Fox and Dana at home, but at work or when they discuss a case, they'll be Mulder and Scully. As for the children's names, please read "Discovery of a New Life" for that explanation. One more thing: I thought that I would add spoilers from Tunguska and Terma episodes because Mulder and Scully knew about the black oil... Also, in this alternative reality, Samantha has been returned. Feedback: Much appreciated. I would like to receive any positive, constructive criticism as it will help me to become a better writer. Dedications: For all my supporters and fellow Shippers. This one is for you! Summary: Mulder and Scully search for answers to bring evidence for Scully's OPR hearing. Will they succeed? -------------------------------------- DISCOVERY OF FAITH I Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Thursday, 3:00 a.m. "Scully?" Fox Mulder called softly, as he walked into their bedroom to wake up his sleeping wife. He called her Scully when they were either at work or discussing a case. Sometimes, it just slipped out of habit. "*Dana*, I need to talk to you..." "Fox," Dana Scully-Mulder said, as she opened her blue-green eyes to focus on her husband. She turned to look at the clock. "It's three in the morning..." She yawned. "What is it? Is there something wrong with Fox and Dana?" "No, nothing's wrong with the twins. I received new information about the Dallas bombing from my source and from your cousin, Erin," Mulder replied. "We need to find out what killed these people." "Fallen debris," Scully said, with a tired mumble. "I already know that. You can go there..." "Dana, you have to go. I need your expertise." "What about the twins? Someone has to take care of them," Scully replied. She knew that they couldn't just travel to Dallas without a thought towards little Fox Jr. and Dana. "In case you forgot, Fox, we're parents. We have to think about our children." She stroked her stomach which was blessed with an another pregnancy. She was only one month pregnant, but she was eagerly anticipating the event. "In eight months, we're going to have a baby again." "I know that we're going to have a baby," Mulder said, with a delightful smile. He paused. "Earlier today, I talked to your mother, and she's willing to babysit the twins while we go out of town all day tomorrow." "You talked to my mother?" Mulder nodded. "All right, Mulder. I'll go. What about the next day? Fox, I have a reassignment meeting that I can't blow off..." "Hopefully, with this new evidence, you'll make sure that we won't be pulled apart." Scully looked at her husband's hopeful expression, and thought how much she wanted that too. She didn't want the FBI to separate them. "I hope so." She was still worried of what their journey to Dallas might bring. "Scully, don't worry about this. It'll be a nice trip. I promise." "How many times have you told me that and then something happens?" "Several times," Mulder said, with a smile. "We always manage to be all right in the end. Don't we?" "Yes, Fox, you're right." "I'm always right." Scully gave him a look which told otherwise. "You're right some of the time, Fox. If it weren't for me, I don't know what would have happened to you." "I don't want to think about that, Dana." Dallas Field Office Dallas, TX Thursday, Noon "Why are we here again?" Scully asked her husband. She wasn't complaining, but she was living on a lack of sleep. They were walking down the hallway to see her cousin at the forensic section. "To find the answers to why those firemen died. Erin wants to show us something," Mulder said. "Again?" "You of all people know how she likes to deal with dead bodies, Scully. She's your cousin. You know how she is." "I know," Scully said, as Mulder opened the door for her to let her pass. She saw the young woman with long, auburn hair and sparkling blue eyes. As the woman turned around from looking at the fossils, she flashed a smile at Scully and Mulder. "Hi Erin. What news do you have this time?" "You look exhausted, Dana," Erin replied, as she noticed how tired her cousin was. "I hoped that my news to Mulder didn't disrupt your sleep." "I'm fine," Scully said, with a sigh. "So, what's this new information?" "Follow me," Erin answered, as she took her cousin and her cousin-in-law to the autopsy lab. "This is going to be very interesting. Read the label, Dana, and *then* look at the body." "What do you mean?" Mulder asked. "Is there something wrong?" "Yes," Erin said, with a sigh. "Call me paranoid, but it looks to me as though someone was trying to hide something..." "Erin, you're not paranoid," Mulder said, with a laugh. She was the idealistic person that he had ever met. "From what Scully tells me, you're the one who sees the good in people." Erin was going to say something but Scully motioned them over, and they walked towards her. Scully looked over at the body, and lifted up the sheet. "Mulder? I want you to look at this..." She took out her latex gloves from her trenchcoat, and put them on. She felt the skin. "It feels like jelly..." She paused. "This man wasn't autopsied. Look, there's no Y-incision here..." "Do you know what killed this man?" Mulder asked his wife. Scully looked up at her husband, and sighed. "I couldn't even tell you what killed this man or what he died of. I doubt that anyone could." "And *that's* not all that I found strange," Erin replied, in a curious tone. "Come on. I'll show you." Mulder and Scully followed Erin to where they were originally. "Scully, I wonder what she wants to show us." "I don't know," Scully answered, with a sigh. "Erin's always been this way..." "She has?" "Erin has, but Mulder---" "I know. I know. We'll talk about this later..." They entered the forensic lab, and Erin showed them a box full of glass vials. "These are the ones that I was telling you earlier. Remember? I found out more information about the vials." "What is it?" Scully asked, as she picked up a vial to study it under the microscope. "FEMA got these from a dig site out of town," Erin answered. She noticed that her cousin looked up with a concerned expression on her face. "What's wrong?" "It's like what I saw earlier. It's like what I gathered from the fireman," Scully said, as she looked up at her husband and her cousin. She leaned into Mulder, and whispered. "And what I saw at NASA Goddard a year ago. Remember? Mulder nodded, and then he asked in a whisper. "How so?" "He had some kind of virus that I had seen before, but I think that we need to know where FEMA found these fossils." "You're right," Mulder said, sighing. He turned towards his wife's cousin. "Erin, can you show us where FEMA dug these up?" "Sure, can," Erin said, as she brought them a map of the area. "It's out at Blackwood near the housing track, according to the report." She wondered what her cousins were whispering about, and she frowned. "What's wrong, Erin?" Scully asked, concerned. "What were you whispering about? I'm curious." "I had seen this before. A year ago... There was some diplomatic pouch that we intercepted containing the same thing...that we think killed this man." Erin's blue-green eyes were lit with curiousity as she looked at her cousin. "Dana, how did you find out this? It sounds incredible." "We were on a case..." "Both of you are always on cases..." Erin paused, and then decided to find a safe subject. "So, how are the twins?" "Fox and Dana are fine. They're staying with my mother," Scully said, as she smiled warmly at her cousin. She loved talking about the twins. "I haven't seen Aunt Margaret in awhile or your brothers," Erin said, with a sigh. "We really should get together..." "You're not *that* far from Bill and Charlie, you know." Mulder was waiting impatiently for his wife to finish talking with her cousin. He frowned. He knew that he was being selfish, but he wanted to find more evidence that will help their case. "Scully, come on. Let's go." "All right, Mulder, I'm coming," Scully replied, as she watched her husband grab the door for her. Ever since he had found out that she was pregnant, he had been the ever protective father. "You know that I can open a door." "I want to make sure that you don't over do anything especially what has happened in the past few days," Mulder said, with a sigh. "I love you, Scully. I don't want anything to happen." "Me? Over do anything?" Scully said, as she teased her husband. "You always worry too much, Mulder..." "I don't, Scully." "Yes, you do." En Route to Blackwood, TX Thursday, 1:30 p.m. "Are you *sure* that you're all right?" Mulder asked, as he was driving while his wife was looking at the maps. "Are you being the overprotective husband and father again?" Scully asked, teasingly. "Mulder, I'm just a little tired." She was exhausted from the lack of sleep, and it was getting to her. "I hope that I'm not pushing you too hard," Mulder commented, as he paid attention to his driving. "I always get anxious when you're pregnant." "You always do. Don't you?" Scully asked, as she looked at her husband. She knew that Mulder was concerned for her and for the baby that she was carrying. "I know you're concerned, Mulder. I'm concerned too, but I know that we'll be fine." "I hope so," Mulder replied. As he was keeping his eyes on road, he quickly glanced at his wife. "Scully, you know that I love you, right?" "I do know how much you love me, Mulder," Scully said, as she looked down at the map. "We should be getting close to Blackwood." "From what Erin said, it's some kind of housing development. Very middle class," Mulder said, with a smile. "Kind of like us in a few years..." "In a few years?" Scully asked, in a teasing tone. "Are you saying that you want us to get a bigger house?" "No, no. You never know but with the rate that we're going, we might need more room. That's all." "Mulder, let's not talk about that right now. Ok? We're not here for house buying, especially *not* here," Scully replied, as she looked at the road in front of them. "Turn left." "OK, Scully," Mulder replied, as he drove the car left in the direction of the housing development. Neighborhood Park Blackwood, TX Thursday, 1:40 p.m. "This is weird, Mulder," Scully commented, as she walked towards the park with her husband. "Erin didn't say anything about a park." "Erin *said* that there was a housing development," Mulder said, as he walked near the grassy area of the park. "Will you look at that..." He bent down towards the grass. "It's a little *too* green. Right, Scully?" "Right. It's a little too green for this climate," Scully said, as she looked at the play equipment. She wondered how their children were doing. "Scully? Anything wrong?" "No. I was just thinking about Fox and Dana." "I'm sure that they're fine," Mulder replied, as he dug an inch to discover something new about the grass. "Ground's dry an inch deep. This must have been layed recently." "The equipment's new too," Scully remarked, as she looked up at the playground equipment. "There's no irrigation system... Someone must be covering their tracks," Mulder replied. He paused for a moment, and looked at up at his wife. "Scully, are you sure that the fossils showed signs of deterioration like what you had seen at the morgue?" "The bone was pourus, as if the virus was decomposing it. Whatever it is, it could be a serious health threat." "We have to find more about this, Scully." "I know, but---" Scully was interrupted when she noticed three kids approaching them. "Hello." "Hello," said the boys. "Who bought those bikes?" Mulder asked. "Nobody," said the second boy. "Is it the same Nobody that bought this playground for you?" Scully asked, as she knew how to get information from children. Being a mother, it comes naturally. "We're not supposed to talk about it," one of the boys said, as he sighed. "Who are you?" "We're FBI agents," Scully replied, with a smile. "You don't look like FBI agents... Y'all look like door-to-door salesmen," the boy said, as he took in Scully's black pants, white blouse, and black jacket. Mulder pulled out his FBI badge. "Do you know where they went?" The boys pointed towards the the same direction. "Thanks, guys," Mulder replied, as he took off with his wife towards their car. "I'm driving." "Who said you get to drive?" Scully asked, teasingly. She knew that she won't win this time around so she opened the passenger side, and got in. She watched her husband got inside the driver's seat. "I do," Mulder replied. "I want to make sure that I take every single precaution..." "Precaution?" "I don't want anything to happen to you," Mulder answered, with a sigh. "I love you, Scully." "I love you too, Mulder." They drove for a few miles until they encountered a fork in the road, and Mulder tapped his fingers on his steering wheel impatiently. "Unmarked tanker trucks... What are my choices?" He looked at his wife looking at the map thoughtfully. "Nothing in both directions," Scully replied, as she looked at the road. "Scully, where do you think they went?" "I don't know why, but my gut said right." "I think it's left," Mulder remarked. He looked straight ahead of him, and looked at his wife. He went straight on the dirt road with a little speed. "Mulder, where are we going?" "I don't know. Probably to where they are headed," Mulder replied, with a smile. "Five years together, Scully. I know that I'm right." He saw his wife's look at him which told him otherwise. "Well, I'm right about driving." "Some of the times, Mulder." "All of the time, Scully..." "If you say so," Scully said, with a smile. "Are we getting closer?" "I think so," Mulder said, as he drove to a dead end. "*Now*, I think that we're close." He saw a sign near the road which read, "Some have tried, Some have died. No Trespassing." He frowned as he got out of the car. "I was right about the bomb, Scully. Wasn't I?" Scully looked around, and she could smell the flowers among the dirt. She noticed the sign, and she pointed it out to her husband. "This is great. This is fitting." "What's fitting?" "I'm standing here in nowhere chasing phantom tanker trucks on the eve where I have to make the biggest decision of my life...of whether or not I'll quit the FBI." "We're chasing evidence..." "Evidence of what exactly?" Scully asked, as she looked at her husband's facial expression. She knew that he was hiding something from her. "Mulder, what is it? What are you hiding?" "The virus maybe extraterrestial," Mulder said, with a sigh. He was folding their road map. "I don't believe this!" Scully exclaimed. She was going to say something else until the sounds of the train came roaring through as it carried ummarked tankers. Without an another word from either Mulder and Scully, they raced towards their car. They followed the tanker truck until they reached another dead end. Mulder and Scully got out of the car, and they saw two big white domes among the cornfields in the distance. "Look, Scully." Mulder pointed towards the direction of the domes. "I wonder what that this is..." "Let's look," Scully said, as she followed Mulder down the hillside through the cornfields. "This looks weird, Mulder. Any thoughts of what this could be?" "I don't know, but I doubt that these are Jiffy Pop Poppers." They had reached the dome building, and walked inside. The fans above them came on, and a burst of cold air was all around them. Scully shivered within her outfit, and she hugged her body as she walked in. "It's cool inside here. The temperature is being relagated. It looks like we're on top of another structure," Scully said, as she noticed her husband bending down to hear something. "What are you doing, Mulder?" "Scully, can you hear that?" "It could be anything. I hear a humming. High voltage maybe." Mulder listened to the buzzing sound, and he thought of something horrible. "Maybe... Maybe not." He paused, as he listened to the buzzing sound again. "Scully?" "Yeah?" "RUN!" As Mulder finished his exclaimation, millions of bees entered the room surrounding them. "Come grab my hand, Scully!" Scully pulled her black jacket over her head, and she yelled at her husband. "I can't see!" Mulder ran back towards his wife, and grabbed her hand. They rushed for the doors. The cold air blasted the bees away from them except one of the bees still clinging to Scully's jacket. "Were you stung?" "I don't think so," Scully said, as she replied. They walked towards the cornfields, and noticed two unmarked black helicopters hovering towards them. They started running through the cornfields, and somehow, she got separated from Mulder. "Mulder!" She yelled, as she was running. "Scully!" Mulder shouted, as he was running through the cornfields. He was scared that he lost his wife or "they" had got her. "SCULLY!!! Talk to me, Scully!" Finally, the end of the cornfield was off within a few steps of them. He finally saw Scully, and he was so happy to see her that he hugged her. "I was so worried..." He trailed off, not wanting to think of the awful possibility. "I know," Scully said, with a sigh. She looked at her husband. "I know what you mean, Mulder. I was thinking of the same thing." "Come on, Scully. Let's go. I think that we had enough excitement for one day..." "We have to hurry back to Washington DC. I have that OPR meeting, you know." "Don't worry, I'll get you there in plenty of time," Mulder said, assuringly as they got inside the car. He noticed a worried expression on his wife's face. "What is it, Scully?" "What if I'm transferred?" "They are *not* going to transfer you, Scully. We're married and we're parents," Mulder replied. He was trying to think positively about the situation, but he was thinking of the same thing that his wife was. The strong possibility that they could be separated was tearing his heart in two. "I won't let that happen to us. I can't lose you." "You won't lose me, Mulder," Scully said, as she put on her seatbelt as she watched him start the car. FBI Headquarters X-Files Basement Office Washington DC Friday, 8:00 a.m. "Scully? How come you're not dressed...?" Mulder asked, as his wife sat down at her desk to finish some paperwork. He noticed that she was still wearing the same outfit from yesterday. "I didn't have a good sleep last night, Mulder. You *know* that. I was up last night because little Fox couldn't sleep either... Then, little Dana started crying..." She paused. "It's amazing that you slept just fine. I guess that I cured you from you sleeplessness." "It's not your day, is it?" Mulder asked, sympathetically. "No, it's not. What happens if they close the X-Files?" "They won't." "What happens if they do?" Scully asked, as she looked into his hazel eyes. She wasn't looking forward to this OPR meeting at all. It was on her mind all last night while she tending to Fox and Dana. "They would have closed us down after the Gibson Praise case, but they didn't. I doubt that they will close us now, Scully. I don't think that it's going to be that bad." "Is this your optimistic side of yours, Mulder?" "Yes, it is. You know, you brought that side out of me when we got married." "Oh, really?" "Yes," Mulder replied, as he looked at the watch. "I think that you should go to the meeting." "I can't believe that you've got me sidetracked..." "I didn't, Scully," Mulder said, as he looked at his wife's concerned expression. "Good luck." "I'll need all the luck that I can get," Scully said, with a sigh. FBI Headquarters Office of Professional Review Washington DC Friday, 8:30 a.m. Scully saw AD Skinner in the hallway as she fixed her hair and straigtened up her clothes. She was tired from the lack of sleep, and she made certain that her eye shadow that she had put on that morning hide the fact that she had circles under her eyes. "Sir, are they waiting for me?" She saw him nod, as he opened the door to let her pass. "Thank you." She walked towards the chair at a small table, and sat down. "I'm sorry for making you wait." She took out an evidence bag with the fossilized bone fragments from Dallas. "I found some evidence at the bomb site..." "Agent Scully, you went back to Dallas?" AD Cassidy asked the young agent. "Why?" "To gather information... I have found fossilized bone fragments taken at the bomb site." "You have proof have this?" "We're working on it..." "Whose we?" AD Cassidy asked, with a small knowing smile. She had found out from AD Skinner about how Agent Scully and Agent Mulder have been married for a few years. "With Agent Mulder," Scully said, with a sigh. She was unaware that a bee went under her collar. X-Files Basement Office Friday, 8:30 a.m. Mulder drummed his fingers on his desk when he heard a knock on the door. "Who is it?" "It's Samantha," Samantha said. "Can I come in?" "Sure, the door's open." Samantha opened the door, and she noticed her brother's worried expression. "What's wrong?" "I'm sure that you know about Dallas, right?" Samantha nodded. "Is that why you're worried?" "They're blaming Dana for it." "Why?" "Because we went off to the wrong building. That's what they are going to say. It's not true. We were at the right building. If I hadn't found the bomb..." Mulder trailed off his thought as he didn't want to think of what happened. "Anyway, they're going to separate us..." "It's not your fault that the bomb went off, Fox." "I know that, Samantha. I hope they realize that, but I don't want to be apart from Dana and the kids..." "Would they really separate you?" "I don't know... I hope *not*, Samantha. I can't lose her," Mulder said, with a sigh. "Especially since we're going to have a baby." "A baby? That's terrific! I'm happy for you!" She exclaimed, giving him a quick hug. After breaking from the hug, she noticed that her brother looked exhausted. "It looks like you haven't slept for days." "Dana and I spent all day in Dallas." "Oh?" "We went inside this dome structure, and inside, there were bees..." "Bees?" "Yes. There were corn crops surrounding the building. What do you think that it is?" "Transgenic corn crops would be my guess..." "Your guess?" "Yes, my guess. In fact, I think that I had seen that before..." "Really? When?" "During the time that I was gone," Samantha said, with a sigh. She didn't want to elaborate further. She looked at her watch. "I have to go on a case. Spender and I are going on a stake out to find the boy." "Good luck," Mulder said, with a smile. "I feel sorry for you, Samantha." "Why?" "You know why." "Don't make cracks at Agent Spender, Fox. If you do, I'm going to tell Dana about what a lousy loser you are at Stratego." Office of Professional Review Friday, 9:00 a.m. "Agent Scully?" AD Cassidy inquired. "You're to be reassigned at the Salt Lake City's Field Office in charge of forensics." <"This can't be happening to us,> thought Scully, as AD Cassidy's words floated into her mind. "Salt Lake City? What about Agent Mulder?" She could feel her heart pounding as this was the most heartrenching moment that she had ever dealt with besides dealing with her cancer. She couldn't leave Mulder and their children behind. No way. "He'll still have the X-Files and he'll have a new partner," AD Cassidy said. "When will I leave for Salt Lake City?" "As soon as possible," AD Cassidy replied. This was the nightmare that Scully feared. She hadn't told Mulder exactly how she felt, but she felt devastated. She couldn't leave her husband and her children, especially since she's pregnant for goodness sake! How could she give birth while the father of her child is million miles away? <"I'm going to think of a way for us to be together. Always."> After the meeting, AD Skinner walked up to Scully. He had a feeling that this news would be heart breaking to hear. "Agent Scully-Mulder?" Scully looked up, and she saw Skinner's facial expression over what had happened. "Sir?" "I'm sorry for what happened," Skinner said, apologizing. "I know how much you don't want to leave him." "I can't leave him..." "I know." "He might think that I'm abandoning him and our children. Sir, is there anything that I can do to prevent this?" "There might be a way, Agent Scully, especially since I heard that you're going to be having a baby with Agent Mulder. We could delay the transfer until either the baby is born or until there's more evidence that comes in." "I was thinking of resigning," Scully said, as she gave him her handwritten resignation letter. "Let's give this some time. Please?" Scully nodded. "I need to speak with my husband." Fox Mulder's Old Apartment Alexandria, VA Friday, 9:40 a.m. Mulder decided to go see his old apartment to look for some of his old files that he had stored on zip disk. "I'm glad that I had kept these files..." He muttered to himself, as he clicked on the black oil file. "There's the file... I knew that there was something very familiar about that fireman..." "Mulder..." He turned around and saw his wife standing in the doorway. He had a feeling that the meeting hadn't gone well as he took in Scully's appearance. Her jacket was unbuttoned, and her auburn hair was a mess. "Scully, I take it it hadn't gone well." "That's an understatement," Scully said, with a sigh. "Salt Lake City, Utah. Transfer effective immediately." Mulder's jaw dropped. He knew that he shouldn't be too surprised, but he was shocked. The thought of losing his wife was uncomprehensible especially that she was having their baby. "That can't be... Scully, they know we're married. Right?" "They know, but they don't care. I already handed in my letter of resignation to Skinner." "You can't quit now, Scully... " "I can. I will..." "We're on the verge on something huge..!" "*You're* on the verge, Mulder. I thought about this, and I can't leave you," Scully said, as she ran out of the apartment. She didn't want her husband to see her cry, and she could hear footsteps approaching her. She turned around to face her husband. "Fox, I don't want to leave our children...you...to go to a place where nobody knows me." She paused. "If I quit now, I can still be with you..." "If either of us quit, they'd win. We have to fight this together, Scully. It's the only way that we can be together..." "I know," Scully said, as she murmured. She looked into his hazel eyes. "I know." "Your goddamn strength and wisdom had saved me, Scully. A million times. I don't know how I could continue. I *don't* want to know. All I know is: we have to find a way to be together. I don't know how...but we have to try," Mulder said, as he fingered the outline of his wife's jaw and then, he smoothed her auburn hair. "And if we quit now, they win..." Scully was moved by her husband's words, and her blue eyes were misty with tears. "Mulder... I don't know what to say." Although they have been married for two years, she loved it when her husband declares how much he needed her. She tiptoed up to him, and kissed him on his forehead. "Don't say anything," Mulder said, as they held each other by the shoulders. They held each other, and then, their lips were touching for a kiss. "Ouch!" Scully exclaimed, as she broke off the kiss. She felt her neck. "I'm sorry," Mulder said, but his wife quieted him. "It's not your fault, Mulder. Something stung me," Scully said, as she showed him the bumblebee. She felt weird. Strange. Her body functions were acting very strange. Her breathing was thready. Her pulse was thready. "Something's wrong here..." Mulder was alarmed as he noticed that his Scully looked pale all of a sudden. "What's wrong?" "I can't seem to stand much longer," Scully said, as she lost her balance while Mulder caught her. He laid her down on the floor. "My chest... I'm having lacinating pain in my chest. I feel a funny taste in the back of my mouth..." "I think that you're going into anaphalytic shock." "I don't have any allergy... Mulder, call the ambulance," Scully said, as she was losing consciousness. "Mulder, whatever happens, I...love...you." Mulder nodded. "I love you too, Scully. Hang on." He ran back to his apartment towards the phone. Quickly, he dialed 911. "This is Special Agent Fox Mulder, and I have an agent down." He gave the phone operator the details of what happened to his wife and the address of his old apartment. After he hung up the phone, he went to his wife. He could see that she was struggling to keep herself conscious. "Scully?" "Did...you...call?" his wife asked, in a thready voice. "Yes, I did." Mulder stayed with his wife until he heard the ambulance, and he rushed out of there to greet them... As the paramedics loaded Scully in the ambulance, he gave them a broken version of what had occured. "She might be suffering from a virus..." "A virus?" one of the paramedics inquired. "Yes," Mulder said, as he sighed. He was worried for Scully. He remembered what happened when he saw the bees with his sister's clone and Jeremiah Smith. "I'm sure of it..." He ran towards the ambulance as the door closed, and then he went to see the driver. "Hey, what hospital are you taking her too?" In answer, the driver shot Mulder and drove away. A few seconds later, the *real* ambulance showed up to a wounded Mulder, and the paramedics quickly placed him in the ambulance. Holy Cross Memorial Hospital 10 Hours Later "Hey, Samantha! Let's read his chart." "Put that down, Langly. He's coming too," Samantha said, as she watched her brother opening his hazel eyes. He looked groggy from being out of it for days after being shot. "Fox, it's me, Samantha..." Mulder's eyes focused on his sister, and the Lone Gunmen. "What am I doing here?" "You were shot in the head," Samantha said, with a sigh. "If it was any closer..." She trailed off, not wanting to think of what might have been. "Scully was stung by a bee," Mulder said, as he remembered what happened before he was shot. "Dana..." "We haven't found her," Samantha said, as she was the one who received her missing person's file from AD Skinner. "AD Skinner has Spender and I on the case..." "Spudner?" "Fox, I thought that both of you cleared things up," Samantha said, with a sigh. She nodded at Byers, Langly, and Frohike. "Tell Fox what you found..." "We found a bug at your apartment when you called for help," Byers said, as he held the tiny bug towards Mulder's face. "And we found an Africanized honeybee in your hallway," Langly said, as he held the glass vial which contained the dead bee. "Scully had a reaction to the bee when we kissed," Mulder said, with a sigh. He got off the bed. "I have to find her..." "Fox, you can't just hop out of bed." "Samantha, you're not Mom." "What would Dana say?" "I think that she'd agree with me," Mulder said, as he turned towards Byers. "Byers, I need your clothes." "My what?" "Your clothes," Mulder repeated, as he slightly winced at the pain from taking off his bandage from his forehead. "I need them. They're watching me..." "Fox, you can't be serious!" Samantha exclaimed. "That's too risky..." "Don't play Dana with me, Samantha. I know what I'm doing," Mulder said, as he took the clothes from Byers. He ducked from his sister, and changed fast. "I hope so," Samantha said, with a sigh. She saw Byers getting under the covers. "I'll stand guard..." "Good," Mulder said, as he turned towards his sister. "I hope that I'll find her." "You'll find her," Samantha said, with encouragement. "I know you will." Mulder walked out of the hospital room with Langly and Frohike, and he got out his cell phone to dial his source, Marita Covarrubias. "I need your help to find Agent Scully. Meet me at the alley behind Casey's Bar." He knows he discovered a faith, and he needs to have the faith to find his wife. NEXT UP: Discovery of Faith II Will Mulder find Scully before it's too late?
