Summary: Mulder saves Scully from the alien carrying virus while their unborn twins fight to survive. -------------------------------------- DISCOVERY OF FAITH II Written by: Erin M. Blair -------------------------------------- One of the Cryopods Antarctica Time Unknown Dana Scully-Mulder was cold...so cold from being naked. She could feel something was growing inside of her, but what? THEN, she remembered. Her unborn child. She knew, only as a mother could, she had to save her baby from whatever virus she was exposed to before it was too late. *Save me, Mulder,* thought Scully, as she looked out from the hazy green enclosure before she became weaker. *Save us*... Dana and Fox Mulder's Residence Annapolis, MD Monday, 3:00 p.m. "Mrs. Scully, I would like to thank you for coming on short notice to stay with the twins. You don't know how much I appreciate this," Fox Mulder said, as he watched Scully's mother changing his little Dana's diaper on the changing table in the nursery. "I know," Margaret Scully said, with a sigh. "I know how much Dana means to you..." She noticed his worried expression. "Fox, what is it?" "What happens if I can't save her?" "At least, you'll know you had tried to save her and the unborn twins. That's what matters. I'm sure she'd say the same thing," Margaret said with a sigh. After she put the diaper on her granddaughter, she gave her to see her father. "Dani wants to see her Daddy." The baby cuddled into Mulder's arms, and he looked into her blue eyes. He touched his daughter's soft auburn hair, and knew that she was part of both Scully and himself. "Hi precious..." He paused, as he looked up to see Margaret. "When Scully was a baby, did she look like Dani?" Margaret softly smiled at the image of Mulder with the baby, and she nodded. "Yes, she did." She paused, as she realized what Mulder was afraid of. "You're afraid that you'll be too late." Mulder nodded. "You'll find her, Fox. I know you will," Margaret reassured him. "She's going to be all right." "I hope so, Mrs. Scully." Mulder put down his daughter in the crib, and then turned around to hug his mother-in=law. "Do you have everything that you'll need?" Mulder looked down below to see his travel bag and he nodded. "I hope so." When he came back from meeting with Marita last night, he'd packed everything he needed for the harsh, cold, Antarctic trip with the hope of saving his wife from the alien virus. The last thing Mulder packed was the vaccine, and he carefully placed it in his jacket for fear it might break on his way there. "I even packed some outfits for Scully." He paused. "I have this feeling she might need it." "That's a good idea," Margaret said as she returned the hug. "Good luck." "I'll need it," Mulder said with a sigh. He bend down and grabbed his travel bag. One of the Cryopods Antarctica Monday, Several Hours Later Scully was drifting in and out on consciousness from the poison in her system. In her mind, she was protecting the twins from the threat of the virus. Then she saw a figure in the darkness. Mulder. She watched him run back and forth with one of the oxygen tanks to break through the green colored cryopod. It crashed through to her, and she felt a prink on her shoulder. "Scully, can you hear me?" Scully nodded. She was freezing, and she whispered to her husband. "Cold... I'm cold." Scully watched him break through more of the ice, and she felt the ice fly around them. Mulder lifted her from the cryopod, and he gave her the clothes she was wearing a few days ago plus the outer layers of what he was wearing. "You're going to freeze too, Mulder." "Don't worry about me, Scully." * * * Melbourne, Australia Royal Melbourne Hospital Four Hours Later Scully opened her eyes and saw her husband walking in. "Mulder?" "How are you feeling, Scully?" Scully sighed. "Weak. Cold." She paused. "Mulder, the doctors haven't said anything about the twins. Were they?" Mulder pulled her into a warm, tender embrace. "Scully, the doctors here are going to transport you to a hospital in Georgetown for the tests. We will know then if the babies are all right." Scully gave him a skeptical look. "Do you think they're all right?" Mulder nodded. "Yes, I believe they're ok." He paused. "Do you feel them?" "Right now I can't feel anything. My face still feels numb - I feel like an icicle!" Mulder laughed. "I know what you mean - I feel like an icicle too!" * * * Northeast Georgetown Medical Center Dr. Elaine Livingstone's Office Three months later "How's the tests?" asked Scully, nervously. She went through a few tests when she arrived back to the States. Elaine had gave her an ultrasound, an amniocentisis, and a few months later, had checked the babies' heartbeat using a Doppler to check the unborn twins. "Everything's normal, Dana. All the results have shown me there's no birth defects." "We wouldn't know anything really until the babies come through the birth canal, right?" Elaine nodded. "But you shouldn't worry, Dana. They're very resilient and strong like their parents." * * * Scully walked out of the doctor's office and saw Mulder reading a magazine in the waiting room. Mulder glanced up at Scully and got up to see her. "Well?" "Everything seems to be all right," said Scully as she felt his hand touching her back to lead her out of the office and into the hallway. "But you don't believe that, do you?" Scully frowned. "I should be relieved but you know how skeptical I can be, Fox." "Whatever you may believe, I think you should keep your faith, Dana." * * * Northeast Georgetown Medical Center Five months later "Everything seems to be fine with Emily and Gillian," announced Scully to her husband as she was holding Gillian and Mulder was holding Emily. "So how come they don't look alike?" asked Mulder. "They're fraternal twins. They come from two different embryos," said Scully. "Just like little Fox and Dana." "Emily here looks like Samantha when she was born," remembered Mulder. "And Gillian looks like you." Scully nodded and then she murmured softly. "I know." "I'm so proud of you, Scully. You're a trooper going through everything at Dallas, Antarctica, and now you've gave birth to twins." "Mulder - " "I know. We've been through so many things but it made our love...our faith...stronger." "I'm just glad I rescinded that resignation!" exclaimed Scully. "And I'm glad Spender helped us to obtain the X-Files." They heard a knock on the door, and Scully yelled, "Come in!" Samantha opened the door and walked towards her brother and her sister-in-law, holding their newborn twin daughters. "They're so cute!" Samantha took a brief pause and then continued, "Can I hold one of them?" Mulder nodded. "Of course you can." He handed Samantha her niece. "This is Emily Samantha Mulder." Samantha looked down at the infant and cooed at Emily. "She's so precious. Yes, you are, Emily Samantha. I'm your Aunt Samantha." She, then, handed her neice back to her brother. "She looks like me. I bet she's going to follow her parents footsteps one day." "What do you mean?" inquired Scully. "Become a FBI Agent..." Mulder laughed at his sister. "Samantha, I don't know. We're not going to pressure any of the children." "Where's Fox and Dana?" asked Samantha. "She's with my mother," said Scully. "She likes to watch them while we're at the hospital." Samantha sighed. "I don't mind taking care of them, Dana. It's no problem." "Wouldn't Jeff be upset?" asked Mulder, referring to Samantha's partner and lover, Jeffrey Spender. "I don't think he'll mind," answered Samantha. She decided to change the subject. "I'm glad all of you are all right. We were worried sick." She noticed Emily's fraternal twin sister, Gillian, in Scully's arms. "And this is Gillian?" Scully nodded. "Her full name's Gillian Christina Mulder." "You named Gillian after my mom?" inquired Samantha. Scully laughed. "Well, not really - just the middle name. I named her Gillian after a certain television actress - Gillian Anderson. She stars in a television show I watch." "It was my idea," chimed Mulder. "If Gill gets teased, she'll have me to thank." * * * Few Days Later "Mrs. Mulder?" Scully looked up to see a nurse walking in - she looked like a few years older than herself about Melissa's age. The nurse's nametag read, "JENNIFER SHELL, RN." Jennifer Shell was fairly new to the maternity ward as she was used to the fast pace of the ER. Her brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail but she cared what others thought of her. It took her a long time to figure out what she wanted out of life, but when she saw Scully and Mulder, something hit her. A much needed direction in her otherwise boring life. "Yes, Jennifer?" Jennifer drew a deep breath and she put the pink buddle of joy - which was Emily Samantha - in her mother's arms. "I wanted to...bring both of them to see you...but baby Gillian is missing!" Scully's blue eyes narrowed and looked startled. She was shocked, upset, and all she could think of was of her little Gillian. She took a breath and wanted Jennifer to tell her the whole story. "I just came back from lunch and wanted to bring in the twins to see you. Unfortunately, little Gillian was missing, and...I asked everyone who was near the nursery. No one saw Gillian leave with anyone!" Scully closed her eyes, worried sick about her little girl. She had a feeling of what happened to her - they had taken Gillian just like they had taken her. *No matter what happens, Gillian. Your father and I will find you.* End of "Discovery of Faith II" Coming Up: "Discovery of the Lost Daughter." While searching for their daughter, Scully tells Mulder of their child, Katherine.
