I remembered when I told her that she's my constant, my touchstone, she placed her hands onto my face and voice with rarest testimony of her love. I know she was never the hearts-and-flowers type of woman, but there are moments when she reveals that part of her herself, because I know she's afraid what others might think of her. Not that she hadn't voiced her feelings of being in a job that's still dominated by men - a point she said to me on numerous occasions, especially on the day when I didn't buy her a desk. I'd never told her at the time of how much I value her. She makes me think for answers and her science adds credence to our quest. I think she knows how I feel about her, but I doubt she knows how I'm truly thankful for her. I look into her eyes - yes, I do gaze at Scully - and I finally found the courage to tell her. "Scully?" She looked into my eyes. "Yes?" "Have I ever told you how thankful I am to have you as my partner?" "Mulder..." Tears glistened in her eyes. "I'm thankful that you're in my life." I didn't expect that admission from her. I could only guess the depth of her feelings for me, but this changes everything for us. "Scully?" "I'm always glad that you're my partner, Mulder. You've saved me so many times over the years. And I'm truly thankful that you're my touchstone. I know I haven't always clarified my feelings to you, but I'm glad that you're in my life." I smiled and reaching out to hold her in my arms. I decided not to kiss her on the forehead as I usually did, and this time I gathered enough courage to kiss her on the lips. After we pulled apart from the kiss, she looked up at me with a gigantic smile. "I thought we'd never go for the lips." "I thought it was time." I paused. "Scully, I'm thankful you're my constant, my touchstone." "And you're mine." ~~ End
