Summary: Is Mulder the luckiest man? Mulder explores his feelings after meeting a lucky man. ------------------------------------ LUCKIEST MAN IN THE WORLD Written by: Erin M. Blair ------------------------------------ From Fox Mulder's Journal: I have forgotten to tell you how I've met a man who survived on pure luck. Maybe not just luck, after all? He was simply was there to fulfill his destiny, if you will. He was also there to be with his friend's son. So they can both survive. * * * I stopped for a moment to get my frame of mind again. There's something else I know I wanted to write, but then my pen started moving again: Whenever I'm with Scully, I keep thinking about how lucky I am: how she returns my love for her tenfold and how much I love her. I'm the luckiest man in the world to have a woman who's my partner in every sense of the word. * * * "Mulder?" I couldn't believe that I written something so personal in my field journal. My hands quickly written something so true: that I am in love with Scully. I looked up from re-reading my case notes in my notebook when I heard Scully coming into the basement office. Like usual, right on schedule. "Yeah?" "What are you writing?" I put away my field journal in my desk drawer - I didn't want anyone to find out what I had written. I'll tear out the sheet when Scully isn't looking to place it in my diary at home. I looked up into her clear blue eyes and smiled. "Oh, it's just my journal." "You keep a journal?" I nodded. "Yes, I do." "What were you writing about?" asked Scully with interest. "It's a secret; I can't tell you." "Why not?" "I want to keep some of my thoughts private, Scully." I knew that was a harsh thing to say to her, and I already wanted to make it up to her. "Sorry, Mulder. You keep so much from me already that I wanted to know what you're hiding from me." "I know, Scully. I understand. I'm sorry -- it's just ever since we first kissed -- I'm scared of losing you. I thought you would turn away from me." I saw a smile starting to form on her luscious red lips. "Am I running away now?" I reached for her hand and grabbed to give her a squeeze. "No, you're not." "So what did you write out of curiosity?" "That I'm the luckiest man in the world..." End of Vignette Feedback: Much appreciated. Send to: eblair@sonic.net Author's Notes: This was originally written after "Goldberg Variation" in Season 7. Unfortunately, I didn't get this story out quickly at the time. My muse decided to go a long writer's block. I'm glad my muse is back now as I missed writing X-Files fanfic. This story went through several revisions and corrections after coming to a final version. I would like to thank my beta reader, Jen, who has been very supportive of my writing.
