Blair *eblair@sonic.net* -------------------------------------- FBI Headquarters J. Edgar Hoover Building Washington DC Monday, 11:30 a.m. "I heard that Diana Fowley is doing much better," one of the agents remarked behind an unsuspecting Dana Scully as she was waiting for the elevator. A sense of jealousy stirred within her, but Scully pushed it down. She looked at the elevator and she tried not to think of Mulder and Agent Fowley together. After everything that had happened between them in Dallas and Antarctica, she was sure that he loved her. "So?" "She's doing much better. I thought your partner would have told you that his ex-wife was all right," a female agent said in a mocking tone. *Ex-wife?*, thought Scully. She was shocked about this information, and she wondered why Mulder hadn't told her about this. She was hurt, but she decided to be strong. *Don't let them see your emotions.* "When was this?" "1990," said Agent Deborah Andrews. She was an attractive, young brunette straight out of Quantico. However, she had heard a lot about Mulder and Scully as they were one of the hot topics in the bureau. "She got transferred to Europe during their marriage." *If she got transferred to Europe during their marriage, then he probably still has feelings for her,* Scully thought. She wanted to get away. She knew that she should confront Mulder about this, but she didn't want to face him today. "Excuse me, I have to go now." She decided to walk towards the lobby, and to her car. *How come he never told me that he used to be married to her?* Scully wanted to go somewhere where no one knew her. *Let him worry.* As Scully walked off, she heard one of the agents said to the other, "Gee, Deborah, she looked awfully upset. I wonder if she has it bad for Agent Mulder." Casey's Bar Washington DC Monday, Noon "One more," Scully replied, as she downed a glass of vodka. This wasn't her typical behavior and she knew it. *Well, as long as it cheers me up, who cares what people think?* "Are you sure?" the female, blonde haired bartender asked. "You had two glasses already." She looked at the woman seated in front of her. She looked as though the world had come to an end. "Bad day?" "Yes," Scully answered curtly. She didn't notice a man walked in, and sat down beside her. "A man?" the bartender asked as she poured a drink for the man sitting next to Scully, and handing it him. "No." "Work?" the bartender asked again. "Yes," Scully replied, with a frown. "One more." The man beside her looked at her side profile, and asked. "Have you thought about leaving?" "I had thought about it recently, but I changed my mind," Scully replied. "No. No. I like what I'm doing." She sighed. "I found something about my partner." "Oh?" said the man. He was curious about the red-haired woman sitting beside him. "What did he do?" *Why is he so concerned?* Scully drew a deep breath and answered, "He never told me that he was married before. I thought that he *trusted* me." She was fingering the smooth surface of her empty glass. David Mulder had never seen a woman so depressed over the fact that her partner hadn't told her that he was married. David looked like his cousin, Fox Mulder, with his brown hair and hazel eyes. "It's not a matter of trust. Some guys don't like telling the other because of fear. Fear of what the other will do." He paused. "He probably was trying to protect you from this." "He's known to do that," Scully said, with a sigh. David was interested in knowing more about this beautiful woman sitting beside him. "What's your name?" "Dana," Scully answered. "What's your name? "I'm David," David said, with a smile. His eyes twinkled with curiosity. *What is her last name?* "Dana what?" "Dana Scully," Scully replied. "What's yours?" "David Mulder," David replied. He looked delighted to see her. "I was transferred from the FBI Field Office in San Francisco." "Really?" Scully replied, shocked. "You aren't related to Fox Mulder, are you?" *Mulder hadn't told me anything about his cousin.* "I'm his cousin," David said, with a smile. "Why?" "I was curious." Scully paused for a moment, and then decided to ask. "How old are you?" "I'm younger than him by three years," David replied. "My birthday is February 22." "You are a day older than I am," Scully said, with a smile. "Must be fate." David smiled at Scully's comment. *Maybe she's right. It's fate...* "I think that I'd better drive you home. Where do you live?" David asked, concerned. He'd noticed that she'd had a few drinks. "Georgetown," Scully said, as she started to slur her words, though they were still clear. "I haven't had this much to drink in a long time." She felt lightheaded as she started to get up from the stool. "It looks that way," David remarked, as he helped her off the stool. "You're going to have a huge hangover in the morning." "Thanks, David," Scully replied. She paused. "Are you a doctor?" "No, I'm not a doctor. I remember what happens when one drinks like that," David replied. "I'd been to a few college parties in my time." "Oh, that explains it." En Route to the X-Files Basement Office FBI Headquarters J. Edgar Hoover Building Monday, 1:00 p.m. Fox Mulder was becoming increasingly worried. It had been over three hours, and Scully still hasn't shown up for work. *Where's Scully?* He looked at his watch, and sighed. *This isn't like her to be late. She's always punctual.* He finally remembered that he forgot to pick up his lookalike cousin. *I forgot all about David.* "Mulder, I would like to talk with you," said a familiar male voice. Mulder turned around, and saw Jeffrey Spender. He groaned inwardly. He'd never liked this young agent, and he could tell that Agent Jeffrey Spender didn't think too much of him either. "Oh, it's you." "I'm here to apologize." "Oh, really?" Mulder asked, unconvinced. "I saw that huge case report from what happened in Antarctica," Spender replied. "I'm impressed. Did you really see a flying saucer?" "Yes, I did. I was there to save Scully's life." Spender drew a sigh. "I know that." He paused. "I know that she had a virus. It was in the case report that Agent Scully had written." "Which was caused by an alien infected bee," Mulder said. "I gave her the vaccine. If I hadn't..." He didn't want to think of the possibility of losing her again. "I never want to lose her." "Do you have feelings towards Agent Scully?" "That's not your business," Mulder answered. "You're in denial. It's plain as day that you have feelings for her. I know a lot about these things. I know that I don't like you and probably shouldn't even be saying this, but I think that you should be honest with your feelings," Spender said. He paused. "Mulder, I know that we haven't exactly been the best of friends. I want to let you know how sorry I am about how I acted towards you especially now since Agent Fowley and I will be working alongside you and Agent Scully." "Thank you. I accept your apology." "Have you told Agent Scully about how you feel?" "I told her how much I felt towards her. Scully knows that I'm in love with her," Mulder answered. "Are you sure?" "I'm positive. I told her before she was stung," Mulder said, with a sigh. He remembered feeling her warm lips on his, and how his heart quickened at the thought of their almost kiss. "Also, I told her when we were in Antarctica." He looked at his watch again. "Where is she?" "She hasn't come in yet?" Spender asked. He noticed a young female agent with long, brown hair and deep brown eyes walking towards Mulder and Spender. "Have you seen Agent Scully?" "Not since eleven-thirty," Deborah answered. "Why?" "I've been waiting for her. We're supposed to go over a case together," Mulder replied. His face was flushed with concern for Scully. He took out his cell phone and began to dial Scully's phone number. Dana Scully's apartment Georgetown, MD Monday, 1:00 p.m. David dropped Scully off at her apartment. "Are you sure that you're going to be all right?" "I'll be fine," Scully said, in a low voice. They were at the door of her apartment. "Thanks for driving me home." Her words were almost slurred, but they were clear. "I think that I'd better go inside. Just to make sure that you can handle yourself," David said, as he was worried that Scully might not be feeling good right now. He helped her open the door. "I'm fine," Scully said, with a sigh. "You don't have to worry about me. Besides, I hardly know you." "All right. I'll go." He paused. "Can I call you to see if you're all right?" "Sure," Scully said, as she wrote her phone number on the sheet of blue stationary. She handed it to him. "Great," David said, with a smile. "I'll check with you tomorrow." They said their goodbyes, and Scully walked towards her bedroom. She took off her clothes, and put on her favorite blue nightshirt. Scully went to bed, as she decided not to return to work that day. She couldn't help but think about David Mulder. He had dropped her off after making sure that she was all right. *What a gentleman,* thought Scully. She heard the phone ring. *I'm not going to answer it. This pounding headache is killing me.* En Route to the X-Files Basement Office Monday, 1:10 p.m. "She's not answering," Mulder replied, as he turned off his cell phone. "I have to see what's wrong with her." "I'm sure she's all right," Jeffrey answered. "She can take care of herself. You know she can. Don't worry about it." He paused. "Why are you so paranoid?" "If your partner had been abducted by a maniac and was missing for three months, you'd be protective of her," Mulder said, as he drew a deep breath. "I'm sure that you'd heard about it." "I remember hearing about it," Spender replied. He noticed that Mulder was walking towards the lobby. "Where are you going?" "I'm going to see Scully." Scully's Apartment Georgetown, MD Same day, 2:00 p.m. David was walking up to the door of Scully's apartment to get his jacket when he saw his cousin. "Fox?" "David, what are you doing here?" "Nice way to welcome me back to Washington DC after five years at the San Francisco FBI office," David remarked, as he fixed his tie nervously. "You forgot about me..." "I'm sorry for forgetting you, David. I had been worried about my partner," Mulder said, with a sigh. "Who's she?" "Scully," Mulder said, as he saw his cousin's questionable expression. "Special Agent Dana Scully. This is her apartment door." He paused. "Why are you here? You haven't answered my question." "Dana's your partner... She told me a lot about her partner, and I had no idea it was you!" "Like what?" "The fact that you were married to Agent Fowley. I had no idea that you were. We used to be so close, Fox. What happened?" "You know what happened, David," Mulder said, with a frown. "I don't have to tell you all the details. Do I?" "No, you don't. I don't understand why you're so blind when it comes to that beautiful partner of yours..." "I'm not blind." "Yes, you are. If she were my partner, I would have revealed my feelings towards her... I would have done anything in my power for her to be mine." David paused, as he looked into his cousin's expression. "Do you want to lose her?" "I'm not going to lose her," Mulder said, with determination. "She knows that I love her." "Are you sure?" David asked, skeptically. "You weren't there at Casey's Bar, were you?" Mulder's hazel eyes narrowed as he looked at David. "No, I wasn't there. Ever since I got back from Antarctica, I haven't felt like having a drink." He paused. "Scully and I were too busy." "I bet." "Looks like she's not answering the door," remarked Mulder. "I'm sure that you'd already rang the bell." David nodded. "Yes." He paused. "Dana had several shots of vodka last night." "Why?" "Fox, you're so blind that you can't see the truth in front of you," David said, with a shrug. "Dana loves you. She's hurt that you hadn't confided in her." He paused. "If you truly care for her, you should convince her how much you love her. Otherwise..." "Otherwise, what?" Mulder demanded. "What's going to happen?" "You're going to have one helluva fight on your hands." Mulder watched his lookalike cousin walk away from him, and come to a realization of what he had to do. He had to fight with David for Scully's love. Scully's Apartment Georgetown, MD Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. Scully turned to her side, and she awoke up to hear her alarm. *Damn, I overslept through my alarm.* She yawned, and she got up from her bed. "Mulder's gonna worry about me. For the past several months, I'd been prompt." She walked towards her closet to pick out one of her suits. Not the pink. Not the black. She spotted the red and black suit outfit from her closet, and knew that it would be a perfect idea to wear it today. She remembered the last time that she had worn it, and it was the case of Robert Patrick Modell. Pusher. She smiled at the memory of how close she was to Mulder then. She wanted Mulder. Yesterday, she was angry. She remember her reaction of how upset she was at him for not telling her about Diana Fowley. All she could think about now how she's going to fight Diana for Mulder's love and attention. Hopefully, wearing her old red and black suit outfit would help to spark up their relationship. She heard her cell phone rang, and she grabbed it. "Scully." "Scully, it's me," Mulder said. He was in his apartment as he hadn't gone to the office yet. "How're you?" "I have a headache from last night, but otherwise, I'm fine." "Are you sure?" Mulder asked. He knew that Scully was pulling a little Scully lie. "I'm all right, Mulder. Really. Don't worry about it. I'm running late." She paused. "Where are you?" "I'm here at my apartment..." "I thought that you'd be at the office by now. It's nine o'clock." Mulder decided to ask her about David to get a feel of how close they really are. "Scully?" "Yes?" "Have you met my cousin, David?" "Yes, I did. He was at the bar last night." "What do you think of him?" "He's a nice guy," Scully said, simply. She paused. "Mulder, are you worried about something?" "Me? Worried? I'm not making that face, Scully." "Oh," Scully said, with a sigh. "Mulder, I have to get ready for work. I'll see you later." She turned off her cell phone, and she was puzzled by Mulder's actions. She had to find out what's wrong. X-Files Basement Office FBI Building Washington DC Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. "Mulder?" Scully inquired, as she walked into the office. She sat down at her chair, and looked at him. His facial expression told her that he was worried about something. "Are you all right?" Mulder bit his lip, nervously. He didn't want her to know how jealous he was at her love life. "I'm fine." "I've used that line enough to know that it means that you're *not* fine. Damn it, Mulder, what's wrong?" "David." "Is this about your cousin?" Mulder nodded. "Yes." He paused. "Do you like him?" Scully sighed. "David's a great guy. He seems to be a quite remarkable agent." Suddenly, she realized the reasoning behind Mulder's attitude towards her that morning. "Mulder, are you jealous?" "Me? Jealous of David? That's a laugh." "Believe me, Mulder, I know what the green monster's like. I'd been there recently when I saw you with Diana Fowley." "I'm afraid that I might lose you to David. He wants you. I can tell." "We known each other since 1992, and I only knew David for three days." "I know that. David's not like me, Scully. He's very outspoken. When he wants something, he goes out and gets it." "Are you sure that you're not like that, Mulder?" Scully asked, teasingly. "I'd seen you do the same thing." "When he told me that he was with you, all I could think was..." "Which was?" "Of how I lost you to him..." "Like how I believed that I lost you to Diana?" Mulder nodded. Then, he finally noticed what Scully was wearing. "Scully, the last time you had worn that outfit was - " "The Pusher case. I thought this outfit would spark things up a bit," Scully said. "We were so close then." "We still are," Mulder replied. He sighed. "Is it because of Diana?" Scully nodded. Mulder started to chuckle. "We were both jealous of someone getting in the way." He noted that Scully began to laugh as well. "We should bring a stop to this jealousy, don't you agree?" Scully stopped laughing, and nodded. "We should do something about it." "Like what?" Mulder got up from his chair, and walked towards Scully until he faced her. He stroked her hair, and he lifted up her chin. "This." She got up from the chair, and faced him. With passion, they finally begin the kiss that started in the hallway. He could feel the warmth of Scully's luscious lips, and finally, they kissed. "Well?" "I love you," Scully said. Her eyes were moist with tears of happiness. She paused. "I'm glad that we finally kissed. It took us long enough..." "I know," Mulder replied. "It took us long enough, and there were no interruptions." "Nobody will ever come between us, Mulder. Not David. Not Diana. I want you, Mulder. I don't want someone else. You're the one I love." "And you're the only one I trust and love," Mulder said, as he gazed into her blue eyes. "Don't forget that." "I won't. Not even for a second..." * * * Epilogue A few months later, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully became husband and wife. Using Scully's harvested ova, they had a baby girl named Kristine Danielle Mulder. Fox Mulder's cousin, David, transferred to Dallas's Field Office. END OF STORY Author's Note: At first, this story might seem to be a Scully/Other, but it does turn out to great for shippers. I know. I know. I have Spender bonding with Mulder in this story. As much as I hate that whiny Spender dork, he told me that he wanted to be in the story. Unfortunately, I had to listen to the weasel. The things that I do for the characters. This was written *before* the season premiere so let's just say that this takes place in alternate universe season six premeire to be on the safe side. I started this story in July 1998, and I finished it on January 25, 1999. Feedback: Most appreciative and welcomed.
